thanks so much.  They are insisting this a simply a 'dirty machine' issue which they say they will need to take offsite to clean properley.  I suggested to them this means there is a defect if the user cannot clean.  I have to use a washing machine cleaner first though which I will do next week.

And a hot wash and the longest cycle. A Bosch front loader heats it's own water so therefore once the water is heated to the set temperature pause the machine for 30 minutes or so to soften the scrud deposits on the outer drum. Then continue the cycle.

I have also seen it suggested that you run a cycle with a cup of dishwasher powder as a cleaner. But check with Bosch first. As dishwasher powder is pretty strong.

And also run some cleaning cycles with a load of old towels or other clothes that you won't care if they get damaged. Otherwise it is unlikely that the cleaners will get to any dirt on the top of the drum with an empty cycle. As the machine will drain before spinning, so you need lots of wet clothes so the water will get sprayed from the wet clothes onto the surface of the outer drum.

Try and find out if there is a hidden service menu or programs on the washer. If you could force it to do a spin without draining first it should help to clean it.

Following this thread Im glad I still have an old F&P smartdrive. Never had any scud problems from it. And If I ever do they are easy to completely disassemble. Although their idea of a water cooled circuit board, with mains power and 350VDC (I think) running through it wasn't their best moment. Later models use air cooling instead.

I've had good success cleaning our top loader F&P with white vinegar but it was mostly "scrud" buildup, and a bit of a musty smell (we are on rain water here and some of the gutters weren't cleared properly one summer, long story) - selected a high water level, soak + poured in a litre of white vinegar.  Can use the water to wash down the rest of the machine too.  Worked really well, machine come up like new.

Interesting that the person on trademe has what looks to be a similar problem. Although the TM user possibly maybe using softener, which could have been the cause. But the OP here says they aren't using softener

That problem was isolated stains which the poster described as permanent.  Different issue here.......mine is film depositing over cottons generally. 

Update

The ceraclen was done per their instruction, which was to do a empty 90 degree wash, then the ceraclen, the another 90 degree empty wash.

First two lots of washing seemed fine, but the third wash which was at 90 degree and intensive setting generated some scum on a pillow case.

Went back to the bosch, and they have just said keep wahing and using cerclen and observe the results.

Any thoughts?

I have got a miele washing machine and before that an asko. Both front loaders, and never had this type of problem with either. Although I only use eco washing power. Never anything else such as fabric conditioners etc. Is there a way to do a chemical breakdown on what the marks are being caused by exactly?

Thats the issue.  If you clean the physical machine, the cloths come out clean.

Now Bosch are being difficult,  because they are leaving the solution open ended, ie just keep buying and using ceraclen which should not be necessary between each wash.  They wont say how long to do it for either.  So I am supposed to just use the machine, keep letting scum get all over my washing and then rewashing to get rid of it.
