Lizard1977:

Current gripe - people who don't answer the questions in an email.  I don't mean people who don't reply to emails (that's another problem) - I mean people who have obviously read (or maybe just skimmed) the email, but who provide an incomplete response.  Several occasions in the last 48 hours I've sent emails to professionals (e.g. lawyers) who answer one of the three (clearly marked) questions, and ignore the others.  Or who fail to answer the question and instead answer something else entirely.  Which means another email to follow up, or eventually a phone call (which isn't always helpful, when a written record is needed).  Grrr!

There’s an art to solving this problem

The biggest improvement you can make is to put key points in bold. That way the skim readers won’t miss those points.

The other is to structure the email with an intro, body and summary.

If you require info back provide a basic form generated in Excel copy-pasted into the email with colour coded boxes for them to fill responses into.

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

Behodar:

It appears to be near the corner of Salote and Vuna, facing southwest.

Looks about right

Interestingly the street sign calls it Taufa'ahau Rd, Apple Maps calls it Hala Taufa'ahau, and Google Maps calls it Vuna Rd!

Edit: It seems that it turns into Vuna Rd one block further north.

Vuna seems to go around a corner, according to Google Maps. Taufa'ahau Rd is the road in the (I think) South West direction?

Yesterday Auckland Council announced a planned policy which, in some areas, will take away many residents’ right or ability to park on the street where they live. The intention is to force residents to walk, use public transport or cycle instead of using a car. The Council wants to be able to prohibit parking and install bus lanes and cycle lanes - all without being required to consult with Local Boards and affected residents prior to making changes.

Another reason for this may be that in some areas streets have been rendered almost impassable with solid rows of cars parked down each side, leaving a narrow less-than-single-lane gap between them. The streets around where I live, for example, have mostly been reduced to a channel rather smaller than a single-lane road, and since many of the streets are steep and winding you have to stop at one end of the channel to try and see if someone's coming the other way before you enter it. If you can't see to the end because of road curves and/or the mass of parked cars, you have to hope there's a gap in the parked cars somewhere where you can pull over.

So limiting or even eliminating the ability to clog up the streets with parked cars puts a natural limit on how many people developers can cram into an area without having to explicitly legislate any limits on occupancy, as well as making the streets navigable again.

Central government recently announced a major law change around Resource Consents. The law will be relaxed to allow up to three, three-storey dwellings to be built on many pieces of land, with no need for Consent. A result of this will be a greatly increased number of cars parking on residential streets.

Putting aside issues arising from just the Council plan alone, these are conflicting policies - has this world gone mad?

Yes - next question?

It is the same in Wellington - just one reason I own both my own carpark and a private garage in the CBD!

Handsomedan:

I was quite annoyed by this as well - they seem to have forgotten certain situations that require Aucklanders to have a car:

  • Grocery shopping
  • Transporting pretty much anything that weighs more than a kilo or is more bulky than a small bag
  • Getting from one side of the city to another
  • Transporting kids to various different places on the same day
  • A day out shopping - carrying several bags of "stuff" that you've bought is not easy on a bike or a bus
  • A trip to Bunnings/Mitre 10
  • Living in Auckland

Clearly you have never been to Amsterdam.

OTOH, he may well have been to Amsterdam, been to too many "coffee" shops and simply now cannot remember going to Amsterdam...! 🤡

Will never drink Corona beer again just due to it’s naming. It‘s not their fault but enough is enough.

So you never believed the stories that Mexican brewery workers used to pee in export Corona?

From 1987 "Barton, which imports Corona into 25 Western states from Mexico City, traced the tale to a competing wholesaler in the Reno, Nev., area in May. In an out-of-court settlement earlier this month, Luce & Son Inc., which carries Heineken and other beers -- but not Corona -- was obliged to declare publicly that Corona was "free of any contamination.""
