We have a PDF few form files that we use at work.
They are created in adobe livecycle and this creates a fillable PDF form.
A user can download the file and fill out text fields - click checkboxes etc and mail the file back.
Works nicely until Mac users get hold of it and dont open it specifically with the adobe PDF reader (even though we always mention this at the top of each form).
Macs will open PDFs by default using the native Quartz PDF viewer (I think its also called preview) that I gather is part of the OSX operating system.
Unfortunately it lets them fill the form in and save/send it back so they think they have done a great job.
The problem being that it actually mangles all the PDF functionality for Windows users from that point on and the forms cannot be looked at/printed properly.
I dont think there is a simple answer to this, so:
- Has anyone had this issue and come up with a solution (google searches indicate there isnt one)
- Anyone know of a good cross paltform alternative to PDF forms (word forms are not great and not keen on web forms)
I am clutching at straws here - any advice appreciated.
