I finished TLOU2 tonight, what a game. For me the story is 10/10, I'm going to be thinking about it for a while. Without getting into spoiler territory while I was playing it I was thinking that I didn't like the choices that the game was forcing me to take (or play as) and the violence was a bit much, but now in hindsight it was all integral to the story.

dejadeadnz: 11/10 for the gameplay; 6.5/7 out of 10 for the story and its delivery.

I'd have to agree about this score.

A lot of the middle to 2/3rd's of the story to me, had very little to no relevance other than just to have some more gameplay to lengthen the game.

Playing through again on new game+ on hardened difficulty and skipping all the cinematic scenes - you don't realize how many there are until you start cutting them out.

Just started Disco Elysium on the PC - about 6 hours in.

Most fun I have had playing an isometric RPG since Planescape: Torment the first time around...

Totally agree.  I didn't mind the violence but several times I was walking through a part of the story thinking (and sometimes saying out loud) "no no no don't make me do it, don't make me do it" purely because I didn't want that character to make that choice.  It's part of why I loved the game so much, I've never played something that grabbed me so viscerally.

I have always struggled with games like this. There was one FPS I played that was quite well talked about online, where you as part of the opening parts of the game you had to kill a bunch of innocents, as a terrorist. I really internally struggled to do that scene and actually considered not playing it. Thankfully, the rest of the game was less difficult to play. I *always* play the 'good' character if it's offered, and make the "good" choices when they are offered in games. RPG's I always take the lawful/white angel paths.

I started back playing Tomb Raider Anniversary Edition. I am really enjoying it. Some of the camera work is a bit off, but the gameplay and visceral nature of the injuries sustained are quite jarring. It's fun though and less drawn out than most naughty dog games. I am looking forward to finishing it and moving on to the latest edition. At some point I'll get back to AC:Odessey as I want to finish it. It's just MASSIVE and the OCD part of me struggles to walk past side quests that might just take a few minutes to do :) Nek minute 3 hours is gone and you didn't complete a single main quest.

One of the Modern Warfare's wasn't it?

It's not so much in TLOU2 that you're a bad character making a bad choice, more that you're a human character making a bad choice based on the context of what we know as the audience. So in that way, it's pretty realistic since making bad choices is probably something everyone can relate to in at least one way or another.

Yeah, I was just more talking about the internal conflict (for me). It drives me nuts when in RPG's where the "good" choice isn't clear :)

Yes, I think it was a MW game. I enjoyed it after that initial jarring moment.

Strangely that was my favourite mission in the game, kept going back and playing it in different ways.

Not quite sure what that says about me 🤨

Yeah MW2 - "No Russian" is the 4th level in the single player campaign and basically you shot up innocents in an airport. Very thought provoking level and did not detract from the game overall for me.

I think the whole "good v Bad" "Paragon v Renegade" "Dark v Light" mechanic is well and truly flogged to death now.

There should just be "choices & consequences" and just like in real life, some of those consequences are obvious, most could be predicted with the right information, research and empathy and some could come completely out of left field due to knowledge that you don't and couldn't have!

The binary path thing is so 2010...

I agree, and I think TLOU2 really explores this ambiguity well.

The following analysis is probably the closest I've seen to my opinion on the game, be warned it's spoiler heavy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2atbKr18gVk

As mentioned earlier, I’m currently playing AC Origins - still enjoying it and nearly finished. Taking the advice of @networkn and @JimmyC I have bought a copy of AC Odyssey on Trademe - should be here in a day or two.

Then just now I saw this preview of AC Valhalla - coming in November. Content looks a lot like the TV series The Last Kingdom and Vikings - both of which I really like. Looks stunning in terms of graphics and gameplay - if it lives up to the hype. This is likely to induce me to get a PS5 even though it will also be released for PS4.

One thing I don't like about Tomb Raider is how bad the map is. It's confusing and annoying that some things when you discover them disappear off the map, others stay on the map. Hard to determine elevation etc.. No Zoom in Function either.

Also, Ghost of Tsushima, watched some gameplay, it's just Assassins Creed /Witcher in Japan?

yeah it think so, but I am looking forward to it for that reason!

The setting and the cinematic style very much appeals as does a AC like game without the dismal “anima’’ conceit and present day tedium which they should have done away with years ago.
