networkn: Hmm I just saw a bit of a review pulled almost immediately that was suggesting the game doesn't come close to meeting the hype :(

Hmm, well I don't really care about fan hype, but the hype from Bethesda itself has largely been demoed in gameplay vids hasn't it? Unless they'll pulled content at the 11th hour.

We will know in 11 hours, but given the large number of failed big game launches in the last 18 months, including Black Ops 3, I will just hold off and wait for the reviews and pick a copy up cheaper later on.
I didn't really love the last FO or it's expansion.

I hear you mate - FO:NV was really thin content-wise, and the FO3 DLC's were average on the whole.
My big question will be stability, in general and across all platforms - I pretty much gave up playing FO3 on PS3 as it crashed so often I got sick of saving every 2 minutes.

My problem was I just couldn't really get into it. Felt like long periods of wandering around, no ammo, no weapons, constantly attacked, then mission, then back to step 1.
It was a long time ago, but I prefer my in game gratification to be more frequent. I find games like batman with LOTS of missions and frequent but small power ups, hold my attention better.
Agree on stability. I can't recall the last time I got a game day 1 and it ran without flaws or problems...
Seems the bigger the game the worse it is, and testing is done ala Microsoft 8.1 and 10, post release :)
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
eracode: The review embargo has expired and they're flooding in. Metacritic says "Universal Acclaim" and although it's not a near-unanimous, perfect result like GTA5 was, there's very solid scores from heavyweight reviewers like IGN, Gamespot and PC Gamer.

All I have to do now is convince SWMBO that I need to buy a PS4 to run it. Could/would have run it on my once-cutting edge laptop (as I did FO3) but it doesn't make the system requirements cut any more.
I think I will enjoy it. Got a lot out of the last 2 but been a while since I played, so looking forward to some more time in the wastelands...
Item: Played a bit this morning before work.
Spoiler free initial thoughts after 2 hours - just enough to get through the intro and the first proper mission:
- It's Fallout. If you like Fallout 3/NV I am sure this one will tickle you
- Technically a bit janky like all Bethesda Efforts. Looks nice enough and the art style nails the atmosphere. Animations etc leave a lot to be desired.
- Feels very much evolutionary than revolutionary but that is Ok and I have yet to touch on any of the new features such as the settlement building.
- Performs Ok on my PC at Ultra settings/1080p with the God Rays and AA touched down a notch. Suffers from odd occasional stuttering - mostly indoors - even though the frame rate still seems to report as 60FPS. Probably patchable/improvable. (specs - 4790k, GTX780, 8Gb, SSD.)
- New conversation system is very Mass Effect with the dialogue wheel. Not sure I like it in Fallout 3 - prefer to see the list of more detailed options and more than 4 options for some situations...
- Voice acting seems decent. Facial animations less so - especially after just playing the Witcher 3 and Until Dawn!
- Heads go pop in VATs. Check.
- Weapon crafting/customization looks like a potentially decent improvement
- They said my name! Gave my (female) character a name I often use when I am "serious" gaming and I have now been called Miss "name" in the dialogue. I had heard they recorded a butt-load of these for the game.
- No crashes or obvious bugs yet.
- Power armour is cool

The menu for getting in and out of the armour seems bugged too. The key used doesn't always work, or works unexpectedly. When you ARE out, you're still carrying pieces in your inventory which you can't use because it says you don't have power armour on. If you store those pieces, you can still put the power armour on anyway. At this point I'm not sure what purpose they serve... maybe upgrades, separate from the shell?? So removing the armour and the weight of the inventory pieces is a two-step process - get out, store the pieces in your inventory somewhere else. I also assumed that the power armour rack had more purpose (such as hanging your armour to make it available at any rack in the wasteland) but it is a storage space (where does it all go?) and used for upgrades and repairs. I store my inventory power armour pieces in one of them.
