So I'm starting to see the catch 22 with the series-s. Apparently its up to the developers whether or not they upscale their games to 1440p. Even if the console supports it apparently its not going to be mandated. So its possible most games will still run at 1080p despite having the extra hardware. I should have figured there was a catch. It seemed to good to be true. Like your still getting a lot of awesome things with the series-s but whats the point if devs don't take advantage of the hardware even at the lower end? If your still at 1080p you might as well save even more money and just get a One-S. Unless you really wanted the SSD.

MS have apparently now confirmed the series s will run one s versions of games not the one X improved variants. Might not be a a big deal but if people were hoping for Xbox one games to be 4K versions on the series s as they have similar power that may not be the case.

Yea that's what I was referring to. ugh. So really you still have to get the series-x if you want true next-gen performance on console. The idea with the series-s seems to be to give people a taste of what next-gen is like through certain titles I'm guessing 1st party titles. Since third party games on the series-s will still get the one-s version. And hope that maybe that will be enough to convince them to be like you know what why I dont I spend the extra $200 and get a series-x down the road. And to get people locked into the xbox ecosystem.

Microsoft's entire ethos this time round seems to be get people playing games by any means, and hopefully we will all pay for game pass to do that. There's definitely a drive to get people to subscribe to game pass, the series s just feels like a low entry point to encourage you to get game pass, they don't particularly care if you want to play at 1080p, 4k, 60fps, 120fps, oncknsole, pc or via xcloud, they just want your subscription.

I do think they are pushing this hard and it genuinely could completely change the structure of the gaming industry if it proves successful. We have to remember both MS and Sony take a 30% cut from digital sales, so the reduced prices for no disc drives is offset by you being entirely locked in to that model, they save $50 installing the drive but then make $30 per game sold back so they will eventually claw back that money one game at a time.

The series s does seem to be largely just bringing bells and whistles that a better CPU and SSD introduce to console games but at the lower resolution. Like I asked earlier I'm interested to know what people would rather have though as the big selling point of 4k 120hz games seems pointless to most people, if you'd rather have a high refresh rate the series s would probably be good enough, but of you want 4k at all you have to jump up to the X.

I have an old 1080p plasma and I have no plans to 'upgrade' that until it blows up.  However, I think the series X is good value at $52 month for 2 years including game pass so that's what I'll be doing at pre-order.

Bearing in mind the pessimism around when people were trying to guess what the RRP would be on release, I think they've done a pretty good job of catching plenty of interest in the market.

I had been wondering if they were gonna do the same deal as Aus...

Seems like not a bad deal, but I must admit I haven't gauged used XBX prices. Now if only JB HiFi could do a similar deal, I would be set.

Yep seems like reasonable deal - I could be very interested if they do something similar with PS4/Pro v PS5.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I wonder if they will let you trade in a X1S and go to the X series. If you do the maths $549 for a series x seems like a good deal.

Just going off Trade Me numbers, X1 X is commanding between $350-$450. Considering the fact that EB will give you $350 for it and X1 prices will be going down soon you'd think, seems like a good trade off.

X1 S seems to be hovering between $250-400.

Also wonder what they'd offer for a one SAD. Probably not as much as the one s I'm guessing.

The All Access deal for $39 per month for the Series S seemed like an awesome deal, until I discovered you need to be a Spark customer :(
Can't switch broadband due to contract.
Anyone aware if there's an alternative?

Interesting. Where did you find this deal, doesn't look like it's available on the Spark website?
