AOE III Remastered;

I have played 3 levels. Again, it's pretty and remastered well, but the concept you can basically starve your enemy to death by attacking the villagers, and therefore really can't be beaten, still stands true. I am not sure I'll play much beyond what I have played to date, but it was an interesting trip down memory lane.

I know, I've talked about this game a bit, but last night I played more, and really, this is shaping up to be the game of the year for me.

It's not perfect, the story isn't that fantastic, character development is a bit slow, and there are times where the levels feel like they are really pretty tough going, almost to the point of not being fun, but then there are areas that are great fun and encourage thoughtful problem-solving.

There have been times where the size of the map and the number of things you need to do are overwhelming, but it's like anything, one thing at a time.

The thing I like the most is that whilst a lot of the games I play, lend themselves to 1-3 actions you can repeat to finish a game, the levels, difference in characters, and combinations per mission, means you rarely, if ever use the same skills two missions in a row, or certainly not in the same way.

I've used most skills a fairly even amount for most characters.

quake 1 was recently 'remastered', had a little stroll down memory lane with it over the weekend

online multi player is cross platform so can play with consolers which made for some packed servers!

I saw that today. It's on gamepass right?

I might have a look.

Does anyone have a suggestion for my wife, who has been very much enjoying Ori 1 and 2? She can't play FPS style games and even ratchet and clank games as the rotation of the screen make her dizzy but has always enjoyed side-scrolling platformers etc...

The Rayman games (Legends, Origins, etc) and Abe’s Odyssey games are side scrolling platformers, they might be worth looking at.

The two most recent Ratchet and Clank's are fun too.  Not a steep learning curve and fun gameplay.  First one is a Playstation freebie if you have PS+

I've actually just started playing the freebie (PS+) Ratchet and Clank. My son used to play Ratchet and Clank years ago, but I didn't really get in to it. Kinda enjoying it so far. It's enough to dull the mind.

What about your Desperados 3, that you recommended to me? Not a side-scroller but minimal screen rotation and only at player’s behest.

I’m now up to Mission 8 and absolutely loving it - fantastic game. Playing slowly on easiest setting and still found it pretty hard to start with. Not getting any awards or badges as you mentioned earlier - but gradually getting better and better at figuring out what will work and what won’t. Extensive trial and error - constant save, try, die and reload - but it never drags.

I’m now playing in an OCD manner and clearing every single enemy from every map - even unnecessary ones. I didn’t do that in the first few missions so I’ll go back and re-do those. Always like to wring as much as I can from a game I’m enjoying. Thank heavens for rainy lockdown days.

Really pleased you put me onto this.

Take a look at The Ascent.  Multiplayer co-op online/couch side scrolling twin stick shooter.  Lots of fun, beautiful looking game, albeit a bit buggy at times.  And its on gamepass.

I played a fair bit of mostly Forza Horizon 4 over the weekend. I know I have mentioned it a few times, but I am having a really good time with it. @eracode if you want a game you'll get never ending value out of, it's *massive*.

I mostly play against 'Highly Skilled" Drivatars though I win most of my races. Expert I win around 70% of the time, but I am more interested in having some fun.

I won the 1.7M Vulcan. I had watched the review for that when it came out, and it was described as undriveable under 100Kph because it was so powerful, but that it would do enormous speeds and handle well doing it, which is consistent with driving the actual car on screen. Taking it through a long tunnel creates a fantastic sound consistent with what I'd expect.

I can't really be bothered with the drifting challenges, I can drift, but not well enough to rack up big scores.

Some games like capture the flag etc are better fun than I expected, even as I am not that good at them.

My daily driver is the Porsche Spyder 918 with a custom tune I downloaded.

It will be interesting to see how they keep Forza Horizon 5 fresh and interesting.

Even if you have a relatively passing interest in driving games, I highly recommend this just for driving around and looking at stuff.

I alternate between gran turismo, assetto corsa and f12020 on the PS4.

Having a wheel and chassis makes it a lot more fun than controller (IMO). And takes a little bit of backwards learning to get proficient with it again.

I'm definitely in the arcade vs simulator camp. I can't even be bothered learning to drive manual in the game with a controller, but similarly wouldn't even if didn't. I just want to have some basic fun that I can pickup and play.

Maybe I should break out the sim rig again and get back into Dirt Rally 2.  Been a while for both the sim rally and the real rally driving.
Though mostly discovering that the first M in MMORPG actually does mean Massive with the rather large world available in Elder Scrolls Online.
