Wonder what value to put on the pipboy when I get that sent over from shipito. It came with the steam code, but I have already redeemed that so the printed code has zero value now.

Fraps decided to work after a reboot, and its basically sitting on 72, but seems there is quite a bit of judder with it not showing each frame exactly twice, so thinking that 72 was the cap I changed the PC down to 72Hz and then I only get 36FPS in the game. Seriously? WTF? Half the refresh rate.

I never took it off and am suffering their stupid half frame rates and still get stuck :( Also it seems really laggy. Just using the mouse on the pipboy feels laggy.

I am hopelessly lost.

Everywhere I go (I am about 1-2 hours in) I see junk to collect, what do I do with all that ? Is it junk or do I use it later?

Secondly after getting the power armour (PS4) I can't work out if I am supposed to always wear it? It's partially broken I am unsure how to fix it?

Also me and a group headed back and now it's giving me a bar across the top with some stats? Am I supposed to be building something?

The tutorial on this game blows. I don't mind working out some stuff, but this stuff seems core to the game and I don't have a freaking clue!

Hmm ok found the help menu, and seems to have worked out some of the questions. Feel free to pipe up if you have any additional information or tips that might make this game more enjoyable?

Collect junk and deposit it in a workbench at your settlements, it gets used to build stuff, weapon upgrades etc

Wear it as much as you want, though early on you'll have trouble finding enough power cores to keep it running. You fix it at a power armour station.

networkn: I am hopelessly lost.

Only just started last night myself but I'll try to help.

Collect it. If you go to a workshop, there is an option to dump all the junk in and it will break down into raw materials as you craft stuff.

Secondly after getting the power armour (PS4) I can't work out if I am supposed to always wear it? It's partially broken I am unsure how to fix it?

In the same building as the workshop in the starting town there is a power armor rack, take the armor off here and then you can use rack to repair the armor.

Also me and a group headed back and now it's giving me a bar across the top with some stats? Am I supposed to be building something?

One the the guys gave me a quest to fix the town up which covered most of the basics.

The tutorial on this game blows. I don't mind working out some stuff, but this stuff seems core to the game and I don't have a freaking clue!

The start quests seem easy to miss. After I escorted the guys to town and was walking away I almost missed hearing the comment about talking to the guy about fixing up the town.

Right I have managed to get water, beds, defenses sorted. Food I am not sure how to sort, I have no resources.

Will the people sort of work the way they are supposed to or do I really need to manage them manually?

I made a generator, but can't get lights working.

Need to string power cables to houses to make lights to work. You need a connector on the house to attach it to, then all the lights go on. Lights do not use your power allotment, they just need it connected.

Left to their own devices your settlers will eventually give themselves a job, but you can manually assign by going into build mode, going command, then walk over to an item like a plant or watchtower and going assign.

Food you need to plant on dirt, then just assign a settler as above.

Oh and build a recruitment radio tower.

Find some corn, tatos and mellons and whatever else and then plant it in sanctuary, then go into build mode and press whatever console version of E is on a person, and then go to the plants and highlight them and press it again. they should say "OK" and then the plants will get tended to and start making food.

For the lights, you need to stick a wire thing on the outside of the structure near it, then point at it and press whatever the console button for space is on it which will be attach wire, then point at the generator and press it. If its too far you need to make power poles or string it along between more of the connector thingies to get back to it. While you are at it build a transmitter and hook it up to power and you will get way more people turning up.

Put all your stats initially into charisma and get the local leader perk so you can make a supply chain between the settlements which makes your junk in the workbench shared between them so you can just dump it into whatever one and build wherever.

I found some plants growing at the back of the workshop that I was able to harvest to plant more.

Seems like you need to assign people to growing food and some of the defense things. While in building mode talk to someone to give then orders then walk over to where you want them to work and highlight that to get the assign option. If you highlight something and it has requires a person icon which is red then you need to assign someone.

I made a generator, but can't get lights working.

While in building mode highlight the genny and then you get an 'attach wire' option then select the light and attach the wire. May need power poles as well, I'm still sorting this out.

I found gourd blossoms, but I presume those aren't what you use to plant Gourd?

I haven't figured out quite how it works, but picking grown crops from other places (such as Abernathy Farm) seems to provide the crops to plant in your other settlements.  Most of the time.  Maybe you need to pick 2 or 3 of something to get one plantable item?  I've been able to get enough over time that I haven't bothered to figure out why it's so inconsistent.

As for power, if the wire is red you can't attach it because there's something in the way or it's too long.  You'll need to put a pole or insulator somewhere in between to get them connected.
I put some lights up, then a light switch and connected the switch to the generator.  I gave up trying to attach a wire between the switch and the lights when I realised they are working anyway.  Well, some are.  It's a bit buggy but mostly it works.  The generators also have to match your power needs, if they're not big enough they'll show no available power.  The windmill for example, despite its size, only provides 3 power.

While I'm loving the s*** out of this game, there are so many frustrations.

A) s*** being broken.  When I was doing a mission that may or may not have something to do with a castle the quest wouldn't continue for no reason.  Ran away, came back, slept, went back, wound up fast travelling to sanctuary and back and it let me continue.

B) the lack of guides.  While I like not being hand held, I hate missing stuff I should have known about the whole time.  most of my grievances are with this last point.

Great game though, great great great game.
