I have had a fair big to say about how bad I think MA has gotten over the years trying to imitate amazon.com and how their banana points rewards are basically a big have, but I thought to give credit when credit is due, twice in 3 weeks they have surprised me for the better.

I got a brochure showing GTA V was $88 incl shipping at both JB and TWH so I emailed them to ask if it was possible to retrospectively get a price match. They took a few days to respond (heavy workload) but credited the difference to my CC. They could have not replied and pocketed the difference but didn't. So Kudos.

The other was my fault, I ordered two copies of SR IV by accident and they took the second copy back no questions asked even though I got a second lot of DLC for free (Which I deleted the emails in the interests of being honest and fair).

I agree, while I think they are trying too hard to be too many things right now, their service level is , and always has been, excellent.

While their daily deals and general direction is questionable, I also must admit their customer service is good.

I ordered a book thinking it's what a want, but got a different book. At first I thought it's too hard to bother, but I emailed them about 2 weeks later and after a few emails they've sent me a satchel to return the book and credited my CC back.

I would prefer they focus more on gaming, as it used to be, and not desperate housewife products.

They wouldn't have survived just on that alone.

Completely the opposite for me - pointed out JB's price and free poster and she said 'why would we do that we have already charged you' - and this is despite the previous woman advising me I wouldn't be charged until the day it was sent. I then asked to cancel - same reason why not.

Great to see they are consistent, yeah right...

Oh well lesson learnt was first and last time I buy from them.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

I have always had good experience with MA. They are not the cheapest but the service it top notch. I usually get them to price match EBGames or a retailer and they are happy to do it.

Do whatever you want to do man.

I've read your other posts on this, and I can understand that you're upset about the deal...  but I personally think that you're being completely unreasonable.

If you pre-order something then you've committed to buy it at that price.  To then attempt to re-negotiate the deal a couple of days out from the launch of the product because you've seen a better deal somewhere else is pretty cheap on your part...  (especially when the retailer has already processed your order in good faith.)  ...and lets face it, this is the biggest bunch of pre-orders that they've ever had to process, and they're busting their balls to get all the orders completed and shipped out so that everyone will have them in-hand for tomorrow.  (GTA5 for those who haven't seen the other thread)

For them to permit you to return the product and get a 100% refund on it for no reason other than "you have seen a better deal somewhere else" is testament to how good their customer service is.

For you to jump online and post about how badly they've treated you (in multiple threads) really speaks more about you than it does about MA.

In fact, I suspect that MA will be rather glad not to be hearing from you again.  (As will their customers who won't miss out of launch day products because someone else has pre-ordered them and then tries to weasle out of it when it's too late for anyone else to get their hands on it instead.)

Firstly, I asked them to match the price. Others have successfully had them match the price in exactly the same situation for this exact game the exact same day.  It was only when they declined to do that I asked to cancel.
Secondly, they told me previously that I could still cancel it until it the day before.  That was the understanding on which I placed the order.  Had that been true, there would be no issue.  Had they told me that it would be processed earlier, I wouldn't have ordered. Therefore they have NOT acted in good faith.  It is them that brought this situation about.
Thirdly, paying 2x postage and a 15% 'handling fee' is not a 100% refund.  Therefore it is just easier to get it from them and miss out on the poster.

...none of which changes the fact that you entered into a written contract to purchase, and now you're trying to weasle out of it for no valid reason. And they are willing to let you do that. And you're still crying about it.

As I said - i understand that you're upset about it, but really - what are you trying to achieve by posting this drivel??? Even mentioning the delivery charges being non-refundable is demonstrating your pettiness.

Are you suggesting that Mighty Ape should not start processing orders for the largest pre-order game of all time until release day just in case some cheapskates decide they want to reneg of their committments the day before? I'm sure that everyone else won't mind getting their copies a few days late...

I'm not sure you have actually read my response....

6FIEND: ...none of which changes the fact that you entered into a written contract to purchase,

A pre order is not a binding contract unless both parties intend it to be.  Here I made it clear I didn't, and they verbally acknowledged and accepted that fact

They are with a circa 20-25% penalty that I should not have to suffer

Trying to warn others of my experience, so they don't get conned in as well.

As said above, had they done the decent thing and price matched as I requested (and they did for other people that day who already had their CC charged for exactly the same game) there would be no issue.  I expect them to keep their word and where two staff members say different things they should go out of their way to try and help the customer.  Not arbitrarily decide not to help one but to do the price match for another.

I have purchased from MA for years and always found them very good. Any changes to an order that i have requested has been handled efficiently. They aren't the cheapest but i'll pay a bit more for good CS.

Just out of curiosity, are internet stores obliged to price match physical retail stores? And vice verse?

I thought the two never cross into each other territory, as their business models are so different.

No obligation to price match ever, only if you advertise you do.

They don't have to offer price matching at all. And if they do, they can put whatever restrictions they like on it - as long as they make it clear. Normally the physical stores exclude online ones, as the physical stores typically have higher costs. Online ones often do match physical stores as their costs are generally lower so they can afford to.

If their advertising of any price match promise is misleading they could get done under the Fair Trading Act.
