Hey guys.

The new Star Wars game will be out in a month or so, is anybody else getting it?

I had absolutely no interest in buying the game, until I played the Beta over the past few days or so. I thought the graphics, game play, sound effects were all good and true to Star Wars, definitely enjoyed it.

I don't play too many games, especially FPS games so maybe I enjoyed it because it was "New" to me, so to speak. Some other people seem to say its more for the casual gamer.

Did you play the Beta? Will you be buying the game when it comes out?

Played the Beta, disliked it, wouldn't buy it in the current state.

I definitely think its targeted at the console and/or casual gamers, any game where a double tap scoped headshot isnt an instakill can just smeg off IMHO.

I had a dabble on the Beta over the weekend.  I enjoyed the hell out of it but cant commit to time to online games anymore, so without a good offline mode that can be paused I wont be buying.

I had a play with friends over the weekend, great environment and good gfx.  I enjoyed playing it and will play the beta more, but wont be buying as I suck at FPS games.

ut this one is more relevantly titled to discuss it :D

CruciasNZ: I tried it out for a few hours on the xOne. Controls aside I believe the content is the same therefore can comment here.

This is a very pretty Battlefield game, but it's definitely not a Battlefront game. Some pros and cons as I observed:

  • Pros

    • Very pretty
    • Quick loading times
    • No apparently lag (level of an oceanic server so here's hoping)
    • Controls were what is expected from Battlefield games (no weird innovative stuff that wasn't explained or obvious from the HUD)
    • Offline split-screen survival mode
    • No shotguns :D
    • New power-up and card accessories (thermal imploder etc) are interesting
  • Cons

    • No single player
    • No online-split screen
    • Hoth walker assault didn't look anything like the movie
    • Wrong hero skins for the map (Return of The Jedi Luke on Hoth)
    • Heroes stay 'dead' (kneeling for Luke) for some time after death attracting fire
    • Heroes are glass cannons

      • I remember them being harder to kill on the old games, but you had to damn well earn them instead of tripping over a powerup
    • No snipers past the cycler rifle card
    • No persistent vehicle spawns (power-ups instead - so no thieving the other factions toys)
    • No squads

      • Don't remember this from BFr1&2 but it was innovative for BF3 and 4
    • No map spawn selector
    • Random and rather sadistic spawn locations

      • No spawn camp protection
      • Spawns you far enough from the drop-pod that you may as well not run there
      • Alternately spawns you right on the drop-pod infront of the whole enemy team
      • I got spawned on a thermal imploder once
    • Flying vehicles are death traps

      • I still suck apparently, and without Clone Era we won't get gunships (which would function like Helos)
      • Shooting the ground with flyers seems excessively difficult atm
    • No bots

      • This is the largest sticking point, Battlefront 1 and 2 were epic battles with hundreds of ai troopers and the players
    • Lack of immersion

      • It looks pretty, sounds pretty, but without the bots, vehicles and weapon variations it feels half baked
    • Original Trilogy and Third Trilogy only

      • I miss my clones and destroyer droids :(
TL;DR
It is going to be an amazing Battlefield game, but isn't a successor to the Battlefront series past the fact it's a decent Star Wars shooter

This is a game that's got me thinking about an upgrade from my PS3.

PS4 doesn't integrate with the Harmony Remote though, and can't be woken from IR/Bluetooth signal.
XBOX one looks a better proposition for those looking for a media centre primarily, over a games machine.  PS4 seems very game and social gaming orientated, and most of the new features don't interest me.
XBOX one is getting a windows 10 makeover too isn't it?

Not looking at a console android/apple war, but it's kinda related as this game isn't available on older hardware from memory?

PS4 was/is marketed as a gaming device.

XBox One was/is marketed as "all in 1" kind of thing.

Some games have a higher resolution on the PS4 also. I think (I watched a video just recently, cant remember what) that SWBF is 900P? on PS4 but 720 on Xbox One.

Oops. didn't realize there was another thread, didn't even look.

Some of the cons you listed might be bugs which can be fixed up, or maybe it is supposed to be there. Example Luke/Vader kneeling when they get killed. Maybe just a graphics bug, if not I kind of like the idea so it could even be called a pro.

I thought there was a single player campaign? At least I played something of the like over the weekend.

I was doing 90 damage with the cycler rifle on the head, but I have seen videos of people doing 100 damage with the headshot and getting instant kills.

Ok, excuse my ignorance here, I have seen the trailer and thought that after I finish with FallOut 4 this might be a good game to try.

Is this only an online multiplayer game? No offline single player?

Slightly off topic but just looking at the Warehouse mailer for Labour weekend. They say 20% off PS4 games , excluding clearance. Usually it says Pre Orders also.

Battlefront isn't a clearance product, so you could argue that and get the game for $87 potentially.

Almost certainly getting this on XB1.  Loved the photogrametry driven models of the geothermal areas in the demo.   The gameplay seemed solid enough, and I never hit any lag issues/rubber banding in the demo, so I'm in.  My only issue is where to fit it in my existing game-time.   Fallout 4 has to appear in there sometime as well..  very much 1st world problems. smile

When I was browsing TWH I had a coupon pop up which took an extra 5% off what was in my trolley.. Bought the game down to $82 give or take.
