Wholly crap. That certainly gets pretty near the top of the list of worst wiring jobs I've ever seen.

Do NOT let them do any more billable work because pretty much everything that has been done there needs to be replaced with the right parts and terminated properly.

What do the faceplates look like?! I'd hate to see what they've done to those!

The thing that worries me is that they have taken the care to strip the outer sheathing all at the same point and bring the loom nicely up to the voice modules... like they have it done it before somewhere else...

Just been forwarded a photo of what it looks like after work today. So all the wires are going into netgear switches which are stacked. Will this risk overheating the switches?

Hi, well that also is a fail as they are meant to be terminated on patch panels, then patch leads to the switch, but never mind, this is better than before. whoever is doing this job needs to be sent for training.

As for the switches, they should be fine heat wise, but just to say these switches might be physically stacked, but not technically stacked, but dont worry not something you need to worry about.

Yep problem is now it's gone to the other extreme ie they are now all data only

so you cant (easerly) decide to use an outlet for a phone or with adaptors send HDMI or IR control from one room to another.

The two fully patched up switches are an extreme over kill ( two seperate 16port switches also ) - Router and ONT still on cupboard connected to ?

As has been said - terminate on a patch panels so they can be patched and repatched as required

I would still tell him to stop what he was doing and get a professional in.
Have all the RJ45s been tested as I can guarantee at least a few of them won't have been terminated correctly.

Thanks. Can they just plug these RJ 45 plugs into a patch panel? Or are the incoming cables that come in from the star network normally wired into the patch panel.

There still is sufficient slack to terminate them of 4x 8port modules mounted in a cluster at the top, but probably best to stop before it gets worse.

Do you really need all 32 ports lit with data?, and as these switches are not properly stacked (and never can be as they lack the ability) there will be contention issues, in reality probably not a biggie but a poor layout all the same.

I suspect some will be used for phone lines. But not all probably need to be active for data. Thanks for the info about the switches, what is a good one to use for this?

Hi, for phones you could get back one of those voice module that were install originally, terminate the voice from the street, ONT, or RGW on one socket, and plug those circuits that need phone into that, I hope since this photo was taken all the cables have been labelled.................................. no I guess not!

As for a switch, probably best left as it is now, put all the important stuff on the same switch which includes the router LAN, any server/NAS, WAPS, office PC's etc, stuff which is low demand etc can go on the 2nd switch once the first is full.

You cannot use them for phones the way they have done it now. They simply need to stop as they are making it worse - there's probably now not enough slack on those cables to terminate them correctly.

Each outlet in the house should be cabled back to a corresponding outlet on a patch panel, so that outlet can be used for whatever service needs to be delivered over it - be it data, voice, HDMI, an intercom, doorbell, a POE device, whatever. The first go they had had them all connected as though it was a single phone line delivered all around the house. Their second go is non POE data, unable to be split into separate networks, but if they've cut the cables too short now, they're going to have to rerun each one, which won't be easy if the walls are lined and finished.

Basically, they need to STOP RIGHT NOW and get someone who actually knows what they are doing. The only thing they seem to have done right is that it is very tidy cosmetically - they've obviously got pride in their workmanship, but simply don't have a basic understanding of this type of cabling.
