ping @2degreescare - as @hio77 says, it seems to be an occasional issue that pops up when a connection is initially provisioned. Sometimes it sorts itself out overnight, sometimes it needs a prod behind the scenes.

i am calling 2d now to get their tech involved again:) hopfully it would get fixed

thanks

Hi guys,

I just moved into a new place, and have VDSL internet while waiting installation of fibre to be completed.

im currently on (speedtest.net, is there any better speed test method?) 20ms ping, 47mbps dowon / 7 mbps up. 2 degree says  that i'm on a 80m plan, which make my connection to be approx. 60% of full speed.

I am not too sure what is causing it but it well might be my old wires. I try all DSL ports in the house still similar result.

my questions are

1. is 60% a good indicator of what im going to get out of fibre?

2. when i switch to fibre, would the old wire system under the house continue to be a factor? should i invest to fix it now?

3. i know most of you mentioned here that most comment slow internet factors are most likely on the user side, is there anything i could do now to find out exactly why and what to improve it?

thank you so much

Sam

Hiya Sam,

Thanks - received, spoken to Customer Care on your behalf (I don't have my laptop at home tonight, and I was out at dinner), they will be outbound calling your shortly to explain. :-)  As per https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=85&topicid=239862, there are two things need to happen when you change your service (xdsl, fibre plan etc) midway through a billing cycle - Profile needs to be updated/applied (which it is correctly), then the billing change has to happen to change the speed and normalise billing for the month (this will be adjusted overnight).

Nick.,

after phone calls and calls, my internet are better!  big thanks to 2D tech support and all you guys help !

i have this result today, tested with different computers, cables, and servers.

300/300 is a huge step to what i used to have, but still a bit far from 900/400

if fibre is a work or not work thing, what else could be holding me from 900/400?

+1 - Needs to be tested over Ethernet, eliminate anything else on your LAN by plugging directly into router, if it's not a fritz, what are you using? Can you also test with nperf.com?

Nick.

Our lovely 2degrees chaps have prepared a guide in this situation: https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=85&topicid=239862

Not all devices can actually achieve Gigabit. Try booting from an Ubuntu Linux live install. As you're using an Edgerouter with offloading enabled assuming you have not enabled bridging or any features that disable offloading (see here) then you should be fine for Gigabit.

Also a big one - ensure all testing is done via Ethernet only. Not wireless.

I followed Michael's guide to enable offloading, still working on ipv6 tho.

speed test result in the website you advised.

tests with PC (z77 extrem 4 MB + e3 cpu, I test speed to NAS and it was able to get full gigabyte speed from NAS) and Macbook

all tests were with enthernet cable directly to router, results are similar.

@michaelmurfy - Do you have instructions/details on how to setup Ubuntu Live to assist - Maybe this would be a good reference document to pull together to help isolate whether it's the ISP or hardware/driver issues?

Do you happen to still have the gbit capable fritzbox?

2d can test from the router to their core to see if things are looking good there.

Will atleast confirm for you it's the configuration :)
