Hi There,

I'm sure this has been answered elsewhere, but the threads I've been reading seem related to other model routers and the steps don't seem quite the same.

Vodafone have supplied a vodafone ultrahub for our fibre connection. We don't want to use this and have our existing router set-up on the fibre connection and running fine. However, we want to use the vodafone voip connection, and so want to connect the ultrahub to our router to act as a phone connection only.

I'm just wondering if someone has experience with this model and can post the settings that we should be changing to get this working through our exisiting router?

Appreciate any help here!

I managed to get it working at my work.

I had to setup a new internal VLAN on VLAN 10 with DHCP enabled, and make sure that port was tagged so it could send DHCP requests on VLAN 10. Then our office router NATed the traffic out and voice calls worked fine. It also first had to phone home to the ACS server to get it's TR069 config so that might take a while first.

I couldn't figure out how to reconfigure the WAN interface on the ultra hub to not have VLAN 10 tagging on the WAN interface and just talk untagged as the UI seems completely locked down.

The issue you might face with a home config is having VLAN10 on the internal side and making sure you don't bridge it to your WAN.

I put together a guide for the HG659 a while back, but don't have an Ultrahub at home, unfortunately.

To get this working, what you probably need to do is:
- disable VLAN tagging on the WAN
- remove all connections from the Ultrahub other than the phone service, then connected it to the network via the WAN port.

It would also makes sense to disable wireless.

Hopefully changing the settings is straightforward. If you get stuck, my in-laws have an Ultrahub and I could potentially have a look and give you some tips at some stage next week.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but since I am about to make the switch to VOIP, I wanted to double check...

Has anyone managed to set up the Ultrahub for a VOIP only function behind a Ubiquiti USG? I am currently using a USG/Unifi switch/AP setup with a regular POTS on the side.

Any tips/help would be appreciated before I take the VOIP plunge... (which is unfortunately needed to get additional TV functionality etc)

So I attempted BarTender's suggested setup in the post above, by VLAN 10 tagging my (Unifi) switch port connected to the Ultrahub WAN port  (with disabled wifi, no devices other than the phone on the Ultrahub ports). This failed - no dial tone, phone light flashing red on the ultrahub

I also attempted (the somewhat opposite) suggestion by froob above (including the detailed HG659 version) of disabling WAN VLAN tagging on the ultrahub, but cannot find anywhere in the settings to do this. I search all the advanced settings to no avail.

I have read all (I hope) of the related posts on these forums, but keep coming up short. If anyone has succeeded in setting the ultrahub to voip only behind a router, I'd love some tips.

Sorry to once again dig up this thread.

Does the Ultrahub route?, plug a computer into its LAN interface and test. If it doesn't its most likely that the same network, 192.168.1.0/24 is on both WAN and LAN interfaces. What address is assigned to the WAN interface??

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

The Ultrahub does route - I can access its interface from a laptop connected to the ultrahub lan port.

Looks like the wan interface isn't getting an IP address assigned.

WAN status showing 'down' with IP address 0.0.0.0

Settings on the Ultrahub:

WAN (Fibre): Connection Type IPoE, VLAN ID 10, Firewall on, NAT on, IP Address Mode Dynamic (I cannot find a way to switch VLAN tagging off)

LAN/Network Settings: .1.1 address, DHCP ON (.1 subnet is not used by any of the ubiquiti vlans)

Ubiquiti settings:

4 subnets: main .5, three VLANs (kids .6, iot .7, ultrahub .10)

ubiquiti switch port to which the ultrahub WAN is connected is configured to .10 subnet (VLAN 10)

I suppose at this point I am no longer clear as to what the configuration of the ultrahub should be?

So on the unifi is there a subnet associated with vlan10, you will need to do that and turn on DHCP and configure a pool so that it hands the Ultrahub an IP, obviously this subnet will need a firewall rule to allow it to the WAN and be nat'd

Is your switch port set to VLAN10 tagged or untagged? You need this to be a tagged port, ie handing out a DHCP lease to a device on that port that has a VLAN10 tag present.

Based on your post above I'm wondering if you have this set as VLAN10 untagged, ie VLAN10 as the PVID for the port.

I'm not a great fan of UniFi switches due to the over simplification of the switch capabilities into the UniFi GUI which makes things such as VLAN setups pretty hard to keep track of.

I think you are onto something here. I may have incorrectly assumed that all VLANS are automatically tagged, but the port profile (screenshot below) doesn't suggest that. Just need to figure out how to do this, as the option to select the relevant VLAN tag is disabled (not just for the phone VLAN, but for others in their respective profiles). Will investigate.

The subnet / DHCP is configured I think.

But I forgot the firewall rules! Other than SIP 5060/5061, do I need to open any others?

(Mind you, this does not affect the problem identified by sbiddle)

Got it.

I created a custom port profile where I forced the VLAN 10 tag.

Also set up the above mentioned firewall rules.

So far it seems to work. Thanks all!
