I've been thinking of getting a Xiaomi Roborock S50 2nd gen, but we have a shaggy rug similar to the one below.
I don't mind if it avoids the rug altogether, but if it is going to continually get stuck on it, that could get annoying.
Anyone had any experiences good/bad with these vacuums and rugs?
The ground level of our house is half tile and half carpet.
I tried to searching, but failed to find out if it can vacuum the carpet then mop the tiles or can it do only one or the other.

@agent86  I have a similar rug and the robovac gets stuck on it every time.

I just roll the rug up now before I set it going. No biggie.

You'd be surprised how dusty it gets under a rug :)

My iRobot 980 arrived. Has been goo so far has saved me a lot of hassle.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the robovac and the rug.
We've got a fairly large coffee table sitting on the rug so would be a bit of a pain moving the table and rolling it up each time.
Hmmmm... might need to get the magnetic invisible wall tape to have it clean around the rug and vacuum the rug and under the edges of the rug myself.

Brunzy: The more I look into this the more confusing it is.
There seems to be so many models( Ali Ex) all with slight differences.
What are the main things to lookout for?
Given that we have a two storey house with around 80Sqm each , I’m not overly concerned with the bigger battery.

Planned / Random
Dust bin size( I didn’t notice anywhere in the specs that said it would stop when the in was full)
Suction
Does anyone have a Wet/dry model, could be good for the bathroom, kitchen

The one you linked is a budget model, newer but not as powerful in terms of suction power. Saying that, it is new so you can't find any information on it. It could be the best one for all I know.

Either get version 1, or version 2.

I have version 1, and it is great. Version 2 has more power, larger dust bin, and I believe it lets you know when the dustbin is full. Version 1 doesn't. I had the same concern as you, but it doesn't matter. You run it every day, so after a couple of days the dustbin doesn't get full.

None of them should be used for wet.

Dick Smith is cheap, but takes a long time to ship and provide support. So if you order from them, don't moan about it taking a month to arrive. Assume they need to order it from China.

There are 3 main versions

1. "student" / cheap edition

Lacks LIDAR ("radar") therefore not recommended

2. First generation / standard version

This is the version most people have.  It is for sale on DSE for $389 NZD.  It is the best value model.  Originally this model didn't have the mapping feature so you could vacuum additional rooms and if you wanted this feature you had to go the model up, however this is no longer the case as the latest firmware upgrade adds the map/rooms feature.

3. Second generation / wet+dry version

This version has the wet mop.  I don't think it's a great feature because the mop doesn't sense whether you are on carpet or hard floor so the mop is always engaged.  This is definitely the version to buy if you have thick rugs as it's ability to climb onto a high rug is better than first generation (however first generation can manage standard thickness rugs). 

- I think most people should buy 1st generation because it's good value and it comes under the GST threshold.

probably need to go v2. there are videos on youtube of both v1 and v2 navigating rugs so you can check it out and see if it will cope.
