You have to ensure you format the card before use.

Would you mind posting a short list of what you bought from where at what price with a photo taken with the camera? Like a quick reference summary? This looks really good, but going through 5 pages of posts is a bit much. Thanks.

This is doing my head in :) I am getting the device to record to the card (as I can see through the PSS the disc capacity drop and the motion detection triggered), and I can then go into the playback and see the records that were created, but when I put a tick in the item and select play nothing happens. If I select download it just sits there and never downloads.
argh! I have not put the new firmware on as yet...is this likely to be a roadblock? Anyone have any ideas?

Hmm well the firmware update doesn't appear to have resolved anything - as I still cannot playback or download any files.
I notice that if I try and download as well as convert to AVI, the download just sits at 0% and the AVI tab says "Current channel is in download mode now"....I think before when download wasn't even showing 0% the message was "Current channel is in playback mode now"....

haha all I want to be able to do is view these files...let me know if anyone has any ideas.

What version of PSS are you running? Mine is 4.06

Yes - 4.06 here too

It's weird it is almost as though it thinks it is playing something - because I can see the X1 in playback screen. And I cannot "play" another file until I press "stop" on the first one.

I thought it might have been due to me running with a 64GB SDCard, however I put a 2GB one in, and the same situation arises...so I am pretty confident it is not the card size.

Well that is weird - thanks for your help xbmcnut with sanity checking my setup. Looks as though everything is fine - at least from your side.
It must be something on my machine - after reinstalling and resetting up the camera nothing made any difference. Also trying XP compatibility mode and running as Administrator still didn't make any difference.
OS is x64 Win 7 - so who knows if this is causeing something weird to happen, which stops the videos from playing....the live footage is fine, only when selecting play back on a stored video, it just sits there and nothing happens.

If anyone else has any ideas as to what might be causing this - feel free to yell out - I am at the point where I will try anything!!

Speaking of trying anytthing - is there another app that might work with the camera to drag the images off?

I am after a recommendation on a Wireless IP Camera, ideally capable of 720p view/record. Initially we want it as a baby monitor, after that an outdoors surveillance camera. Both will record to our high speed NAS.

Should I start another thread or is it ok to use this one?

interestingly - my side is all working now....it came down to the user config...I had setup a new user to use with PSS (as an admin) and I was sure I didn't uncheck anything (so assume everything was checked by default)....and playback and backup was removed; hence no playback (doh) and no downloading/converting to AVI (backup)....hate it when the easiest things are overlooked.
That was a waste of a day...

On another note - with the clarity, I am running at fill 1080 but when I zoom in onto a cars licence plate that is about 7 meters away (at an angle) there is no chance of reading it....what would be the settings to tweek here?

would you mind sharing that image? like to see some outdoor distance sample images and how they look when zoomed.

@E3xtc,

I've calculated your scene width @ 7m to be 8.7m wide with an effective pixel per metre of 196. The absolute min for number plates is recommended as 200 px/m in ideal conditions and assuming you are straight on. Number plates are also retro-reflective so capturing them with a standard camera 24/7 is more good luck and than good management. There is a wealth of info online in regards to to minimum px/m recommendations and number plate capture.

Thanks for running those numbers - something I figured was going to be nice and straight forward has a bit more thought required huh....maybe if I had gone through this I might have gone with a higher mp camera, but I saw resolution and hd and thought it would be more than enough..hahha....oh well...there is another spot where I can put the camera to get more front on - which will help with identification but still might be marginal.

Neil - in terms of what I ended up with it was the camera initially recomended here (http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/ipc-hdb3200c--17.html) and a Micro-SD card. Real basic solution, no NAS or anything tricky; but the end result is exactly as required. The camera is plugged into a PoE Injector and then into the wireless repeater that I have in the roof cavity in order for the camera to sit on the network for viewing online.
I don't have any captured stills that I can load up as yet - but once I do, I will post them up.
