I am extremely unhappy about my decision to move to Snap.
What made me switch, well they advertise a faster download speed, all you can eat and a router which I can plug my phone directly into for my VOIP service.

The long story.

Before switching to Snap I called and confirmed some things with the sales team, one of them being that I the switch over will be as simple as my current DSL going down and all I need to do is switch devices.
They day of the switch over, well my DSL goes down and I switch devices, this happened on a Friday afternoon, and it doesn't come up. I tried a few things like removing the filter, powering of and on, etc. No joy, so I call the call center.
A very helpful support guy talks me though trying different things to try. Still no joy. He says he will log a call with Chorus. I asked if I could phone back on Saturday if I hear nothing for an update, he says no problem.

Saturday morning round 11, still no service, I call again, a different very unfriendly guy tells me that Sanp does not follow up with Chorus and I need to wait, he also goes on to tell me that it takes 5-7 days to provision the service. I explained that is not what I was told. he continued to repeat the same statement and really wasn't interested in what I had to say, so I was rude and put the phone down. I'm a terrible person.

On Sunday we reset the Fritzbox, and the line comes up. Yipeee!!! well maybe not.

My previous dsl download speed test was just over 6 meg, with Snap its a whopping 3,6meg. As the day progresses it gets worse.

On Monday I call again, and after waiting over 30mins on hold the help desk tells me to try reconfiguring my previous dsl router with the Snap details. I did this and my speeds are back up to 6meg downloads. No where near what the Snap website says. I understand I am far from the exchange so can't expect the 20meg they say, but seriously.. 6meg???

After a few days I decide to call again, cause clearly no one from Snap is interested in checking with me if I am happy, I did sign up for 2 years after all.. so why bother.

After waiting 40mins to talk to someone, they do a test and say yep, there is a problem, my cabling looks faulty and they will get Chorus on to it. Yipeee!!!!! its going to get better...

Oh well, turns out Chorus thinks there is nothing wrong as they tested and I get the same speed as my neighbor.. sigh!!!! and Snap asking me what else I think they should do ????? I am not the ISP here doh!!!

Now I have a 2 year subscription to a service I am not happy with and a Fritbox I can't use.... AAARRRGGGG!!!!

HELP!!!! I have no idea what to do next..

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

So, you expected changing ISP would dramatically improve your DSL sync rates?

But, sounds like they gave you a muck around getting it going.

You're not going to see any increase in speed by changing ISP as the limitation is always the sync speed which won't change.

You really need to answer all the questions above including location and sync speed if you want anybody to be able to help you.

Any idea where I can get my sync stats on a Technicolor TG582n? Tried googling for it and have gone through the options on the device.
As to expecting it to change.. was hoping, but it is now worse performance wise as my son can't even play LOL... maybe not such a bad thing ..

Statistically speaking, this same experience would have occurred changing to any ISP.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Exactly. Most ISPs advertise ADSL2+ as "possible" to achieve 24 MBPS download. Of course this doesn't mean EVERYONE will get even close to this maximum potential.

any reason why you dont use the Fritzbox, it will have all Snap settings entered, the main one being Snaps DNS

By the sounds of it his sync rates were better with his old modem, which is entirely plausible as different modems/firmware versions work differently with the various DSLAMs out there

24MBPS if you're inside the exchange and connected straight into it with a short cable.. maybe

changing ISP will never improve your connection, changing router sometime will improve your "sync speed"(different to download speed)
unless your have put you on a slower profile to give you a more stable connection.

apart from that dont expect too much of an improvement of speed.

but the guy telling you to wait 5 to 7 days for chorus to find the fault sounds pretty lazy.... your line is already provisioned....

The Snap Fritzbox performs worse the Telecom one.

you should really start off with giving some information that was listed from the second post by bot.

without it its the same as saying my car is running slow and I need it fixed.

I am unable to get the sync speeds or any other technical details off the Telecom device I am using, see one of my responses above.
Other than that its an ADSL2+ line and I line in wrights hill, Karori Wellington, which is not rural.
Not sure if there is any other helpful info I can give unless someone can help me get the tech info from the Telecom device.

Regardless though, Ralph said send the info and he will see what he can do, which I did 2 days ago... not being difficult... just frustrated..
