Had internet connected a couple weeks ago. Initially speeds were ~3Mbps but have increased since I had a master filter/splitter and new cable fitted.

Is there anything else I can do?

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

that's not that long a distance, 10 megabit sync is about normal for 2km from exchange not 800 metres.

Yeah, there's something wrong there; my attenuation is slightly higher (27) and I get 14 Mb/s. I'm somewhere around 1.3 km from the cabinet so those stats look completely wrong for 800 m.

Ask snap to do a prequal for vdsl? Even if you don't want to get vdsl it gives decent info on what chorus thinks your line should do. And if you can get vdsl it's well worth it (though with that attenuation very unlikely) if it comes back positive though that would confirm something isn't right.

This, combined with the 26dB attenuation suggests you are a lot further than 800m by cable distance from the exchange. Bear in mind the cable often does not take the most direct route, and travels down one side of a street then back up, or loops down side streets and back.

Considering your attenuation, the sync rate is not bad. There is an approximate correlation between higher attenuation and lower sync rate, but the sync rate will depend on factors other than attenuation as well, such as crosstalk from other pairs in the same feeder - effectively this means you could see several people that all have 26dB attenuation, but a variety of sync rate.

If there is someone here with local knowledge, they may be able to tell you the cable route.
