Peppery: Photo doesn't work?
gzt: Terrible photo. This is a regular occurrence. They need to set up a jig and get it right every time. Looks like it was taken with a phone.
Peppery: That photo doesn't seem to add up with liquid damage. I work at a place that handles phones out of warranty - liquid damage is usually much more profound. I'm not an S3 expert but if it wasn't anywhere near an opening I'd expect to see liquid elsewhere on the phone.
An update with my phone: after 9 days away I received it back, unprepared and $85 lighter to the wallet, from the geniuses at Telegistics. They didn't even open it to confirm liquid damage, as shown in the photos they sent me a week after 'diagnosing' it. Called up Apple, explained the situation and they sent out an advance replacement iPhone within 24 hours. It's just shocking how badly they treat their customers.
Galaxy S10
Garmin Fenix 5
jeffnz:
Apple??? what have they got to do with anything, thought it was a Samsung phone swo why would apple send a replacement.

insane: Back when I used to work at DSE we saw this on a weekly basis.
Phones would be declared ''water damaged' even if only the power connectors showed the slightest discoloration. Made for some mighty irate customers.
We also had a large box of unclaimed broken phones as many people refused to pay the inspection fee, choosing to simply never collect the phones.
gzt: Does it depend which outlet you buy the phone from or do Telegistics do all warranty for Samsung phones in NZ?
fletchaman:
I do believe Telegistics is owned by Telecom, Vodafone use a different company I do believe but thats not saying they are any better. Maybe Samsung have told them what percentage of phones they will warranty repair and the rest have to be sent back "Liquid Damage" I wouldn't put it past them.
sittingduckz: In my (not an expert) opinion it is a leaky capacitor. I have emailed the photo to get an expert opinion on it.
Hopefully will have an answer on this shortly
This kind of crap really annoys me :)
mattRSK: Final year elec eng here, I will get an electronics prof to look at the picture.
