gzt: Terrible photo. This is a regular occurrence. They need to set up a jig and get it right every time. Looks like it was taken with a phone.

That photo doesn't seem to add up with liquid damage. I work at a place that handles phones out of warranty - liquid damage is usually much more profound. I'm not an S3 expert but if it wasn't anywhere near an opening I'd expect to see liquid elsewhere on the phone.

An update with my phone: after 9 days away I received it back, unprepared and $85 lighter to the wallet, from the geniuses at Telegistics. They didn't even open it to confirm liquid damage, as shown in the photos they sent me a week after 'diagnosing' it. Called up Apple, explained the situation and they sent out an advance replacement iPhone within 24 hours. It's just shocking how badly they treat their customers.

Back when I used to work at DSE we saw this on a weekly basis.

Phones would be declared ''water damaged' even if only the power connectors showed the slightest discoloration. Made for some mighty irate customers.

We also had a large box of unclaimed broken phones as many people refused to pay the inspection fee, choosing to simply never collect the phones.

I'm not the OP. Earlier in the the thread I stated I was having the exact same issue with Telegistics.

Does it depend which outlet you buy the phone from or do Telegistics do all warranty for Samsung phones in NZ?

I am glad you got help off Apple, I spoke to Samsung customer services in NZ and got told they will stand by any diagnosis telegistics report. I couldn't catch my breath they didn't want to know basically.

I do believe Telegistics is owned by Telecom, Vodafone use a different company I do believe but thats not saying they are any better. Maybe Samsung have told them what percentage of phones they will warranty repair and the rest have to be sent back "Liquid Damage" I wouldn't put it past them.

Telegistics are 100% owned by Telecom. Vodafone send their phones to Brightpoint (not owned by VF) who in my dealings with take about as long however I've never had an issue with them.

Well finally got a response from Telecom after a shop assistantcalled me to give me Telegistics phone number so I got TDR involved. as follows:-

Good afternoon

I am the consumer sales manager for Telecom in your area. Your complaint has been escalated to me.

Firstly my apologies that you have not had a great experience with your phone.

I understand you have spoken with Kelly but wish to speak to your original sales consultant is this correct?

Just to recap you don’t believe that the phone is liquid damaged and that you think another issue has caused the component to burn out. You believe that you have never placed the phone near moisture or put it in a situation where accidental moisture damage would occur.

Our repair company Telegistics is certified by all the major manufacturers and making bogus claims would put this at risk. I do not believe that they would intentionally get your phone diagnoses wrong. I do understand that everyone makes mistakes sometimes. I am happy to escalate this to the customer care manager to get them to reassess the phone. If they do find liquid damage a second time are you happy to abide by this decision?

The chances of a new phone leaving one of stores in a liquid damaged condition is highly unlikely. So this leaves me perplexed as to how the damage occurred.

The charge of $85 is correct as your phone is a smart phone. To book in a feature phone it is $55.

I will do some further investigation as to where you bought the phone and who served you. Please let me know if you wish to escalate the repair.

Kind Regards,

I asked he read the initial complaint and I will make a decision on my next steps upon his response, so will let you all know how the story transpires

sittingduckz: In my (not an expert) opinion it is a leaky capacitor. I have emailed the photo to get an expert opinion on it.
Hopefully will have an answer on this shortly

This kind of crap really annoys me :)

Hi Sittingduckz, did you get a response from your email of my photo?

Regards

David

I think it's a bit damn cheeky that they want to charge you for a Ph repair when the Ph is under warranty
