lofreq: I just flashed Simplicity 1.5.1 JVT with Semaphore 1.8.0 big mem, clocked to 1200mhz and undervolted. I was on Damian gto's kernel for ages before this and I can say the performance on this new kernel combined with the supercharge scripts in this ROM have to be experienced to be believed. This is the fastest and most stable my phone had been since Froyo 2.2.1

I tried that combination today based on your comment, and couldn't get any faster than GSM data connection. So, any recommendation for the right modem firmware for Vodafone in Wellington?
lofreq: what i meant when talking about "fast" was the physical speed of the phone navigating thru menus, loading and running apps, and quadrant (which is sitting around 2600-2900 for me now)
lofreq: im not sure what you mean by you couldnt get faster than "GSM data" - by this do you mean 2G GPRS speeds only, ie you are unable to connect on 3G? have you gone into settings>wireless&network>mobilenetwork>AccessPointNames and ensured that area is not empty?
tanivula: Come to the dark side... Really impressed how MIUI has matured.. I tried going back to stock but couldn't do it for more than a day!

OK, not entirely 100% sure of all the correct jargon; but with the stock Vodafone firmware, at home I get "3G" and "H" icons in the top "status bar" when accessing data frequently; but with the Simplicity/Semaphore combo, the phone wouldn't lock into those, and spent most of it's time with "G" - this is what I assume is 2G GPRS (and what I called GSM above) data speed.
I tried flashing BUJP5, and it didn't make much difference; interestingly enough, when I restored my NANDROID backup back to the Vodafone Stock (2.3.3) rom, the BUJP5 modem stayed there, and I got 3G/"H" speed again. (I've fully flashed back to "stock" now and it says Baseband "SRJV1")
Presumably there is some setting inside Simplicity/Semaphore which needs tweaking, but I'm not sure what. I had used a tool to backup my APNs before I reflashed, and I restore that, and it didn't seem to make any difference.
I'm also not 100% convinced that BUJP5 works well with Gingerbread - isn't it a Froyo modem? And does that actually make a difference?
lofreq: FROYO modems work fine with GB, i used a FROYO modem on my GB build for months with no issue.
lofreq: to me it seems like its an APN problem. i dont know if using your "tool" to backup and restore your APNs is working. have you physically gone in there to see if anything is there at all?
Shrapnel: +1 to this. Been using MIUI for a solid 6 months, it has improved a lot. Gives CM7 a run for its money speed wise. Only two things I miss are the TV out and and video auto focus not that I really need or use either
Vivasanti: try the BUJV3 modem its superseded the BUJP5, ive been using the BUJV3 one for ages, and believe me ive tried/tested alot, this one gave me best cell/3g/battery.
