hairy1: If you imported the item and paid GST when importing it (for instance DHL may collect GST on your behalf and charge you during the import process) then you can claim that but you purchased overseas and just brought it back into NZ then the answer is no.

As an aside ASUS just pushes out an OTA update for the transformer. The rumour is that it is prep for honeycomb 3.2. I installed it with no issues.

I put one in my Amazon checkout just to see what the costs were. Amazon added tax on the item when it was going to NZ. So as long as you can show that tax as a separate item you should be able to get the GST back if you qualify. The question is, will the Amazon invoice satisfy the IRD as a GST invoice which should show the collector's GST registration number.

Perhaps somebody who purchased one can provide more information.

I have done it a couple of times. The Amazon invoice does not provide a breakdown of the GST and import levies. You need to get hold of the shipper to provide the GST and levies breakdown. They will fax through a statement with the GST and levy components. I provided this as GST on imports (not including levies) when completing my GST return.

If I was going to do it now (it cost me $620 NZD all up) I would just buy local as the price differential has come right down recently ($720 on pricespy now)

Where does it say that the Amazon units have an international warranty? I can only see mention that they have a 1year North America warranty.

Current cost through Amazon appears to be just under NZ$600 landed although their currency converter could be less favourable than buying in US and letting VISA do the conversion? Lowest price on Pricespy is $707 at Ascent (no stock). Considering Synnex and Ingram Micro don't even list these, I wonder who's importing them to NZ. Ascent don't normally deal in parallel imported goods AFAIK.

Ive seen reported elsewhere that all ASUS units have an international warranty - if so the only trick might be in returning it to them :)

I have a US version. The warranty card says my EEE pad is covered by a global 1 year warranty.

Mine is the same, explicitly states its a global warranty so another reason to like ASUS!

After more than 6 weeks I've finally decided on the ASUS over the Galaxy 10.1. I would dearly love the Galaxy but it can't be shipped to NZ.

Still, I'm happy with my decision and hopefully by Wednesday my new tablet will be in my hot little hand. Another Android baby to add to the family.

Now it's time to go shopping for covers etc.

I've read here someone was able to buy the keyboard but on Amazon the only seller wont ship to NZ. Has anyone been able to buy the keyboard elsewhere?

I have the transformer and am extremely happy with it. I reckon the screen is better than the ipad. Build quality is fine but I would rate the ipad build quality better. Playtech have the keyboard for $249 as does computer lounge with free shipping.

It gets used every day!

I think a few on here have ordered the keyboard from Amazon but only when it is Amazon itself selling them and not one of the stores that sell through Amazon.

Let us know what cover you end up getting as I am looking at some options at the moment, not many work with the keyboard attached though.

I ordered mine from amazon, all up for a 32 gig tablet and keyboard was about $915 NZD. The keyboard was $210 NZD and the tablet $705.

A decent saving over the NZ list price of $1100 for the same deal.

After playing around in the checkout, it looks like you can get the best deal if you buy the tablet and get GST pre charged on it, then buy the dock separately and as its under $400NZD you don't get GST added on.

That's all with super saver shipping.
