OT, not me, out of interest.  When one gets a new phone and throws in the Google a/c does the apps get restored even when you get a new diff phone?

Thanks.

Worked for me. Went from i9000 to a i9505 and everything came back, incl WiFi connection data.  By everything I mean stuff stored in the cloud - data stored on the old phone incl things like game saves didn't but all the apps installed via the play store automatically downloaded.

Oddly, a long time ago when I was originally flashing different 2.3.x ROMs on the i9000 it didn't work, however once I started with 4.X roms, the google backup and restore was working like a charm.

What device have you got at the moment?

Depends on the settings for the play store on the last phone. The end user has the choice for this to happen

I have a LG Optimus G.

You guys can sync contacts as well? In my settings and then under sync it is set to "auto sync" and if I go to add account contacts isn't listed. The only things I haven't synced is Yahoo.

After I did the factory reset via the settings menu. Now all my contacts on my phone's memory is gone. I only have my contacts on my sim........

Contacts including their pictures transfer over to the new phone.
The same goes for apps(including purchased ones).

The old device has to have google account backup enabled though.
The new device should ask if you want to restore from backup when you put in your google account.

If you want to move phone only data, like game saves etc, a backup app like titanium backup can help.

How do you enable syncing with the contacts? I'm at a lost with that. It is already set to "auto sync" do I just add a contact into my now empty phone's memory and do a reset .... then log on with my Google account and it should be there?

I was trying to fix something before after that reset. I I chose no Google account upon startup. After I logged into my Google got all my apps but no contacts. But surely sometimes one might log into a temp phone and don't need Google but then log onto yet another phone and get it later ... no?

What sort of phone?... you have to make sure contacts are saved to the gmail account and not just in phone memory or on the sim.

On the laptop. Under my Google Account - Contacts - if I use the restore contact command back 7 days or 20 days I get no contacts....

I don't know where to enable this on the phone. Contacts - then settings. It only has Import/Export - sim/internal storage. Under Contacts - Settings - I only have Sync now which is a operating command or else display options, online search or transfer type.

Not sure what you're saying. You have no contacts showing in gmail at all?

Again, I'm not sure what you mean. Your Google will auto-sync your contacts IF you have contacts.

Under gmail.com, the drop down box I choose Contacts. Under the More dropdown box I choose Restore Contacts - Custom - Back 7 or 20 days I get no contacts.

Yeah it is empty. I don't use gmail.com. Only for online internet accounts. I swapped over from my ISP email a week ago. I only use Gmail for the GPS and Youtube, web history etc for the phone.

On the phone auto-sync is ticked. I added a new contact into the phone. Called "Test" doesn't have the simcard logo so it is on the phone's memory. But it's not on my Gmail account.

Under My Contacts - nothing. Under Starred in Android - nothing.

I don't have contacts on my gmail.com cos i don't use the email there, only to receive internet junk emails from companies. Or do I have to export my phone to online and then sync back? I've added a new contact called "Test" 021 1234567 into the phone. But it doesn't appear on Gmail.com. No contact there ....

When you saved the contact, did it give you a choice of where to save it?
Most contact managers have an "accounts" choice somewhere.

Alternatively, put the contact into Gmail and see if it syncs from there.

EDIT: Google will automatically sync.

Ok thanks that bit right at the top there .... Mine defaults to Phone. When I put in new contact and change account to Google it works now. Same if I create a new contact at Gmail.com its on my phone ....

Now do I need to copy all my simcard contacts to CSV to Gmail.com? and Import back to the phone? I hope I don't need to change each contact individually to Google Account.

If you "import" from your SIM on the phone it might give you an option to save them all to your google account.
I can't say for sure though as I've never saved contacts to the SIM since I've used android.
