hmmmm, thats strange, speedtest image doubled [fixed now] up. Bruce, what are you results for http://speedtest.xport.co.nz/ ??
This will indicate if you have an issue between you and Xnet.

@brucie44:

Not really fixed for you either.

I asked about the octet because a couple of people on GPForums have said their speeds were pretty much the same internationally.
And they're on another IP block.

GEOMAX:
you would have thought that there would be a delay in sending the email so that if the post was deleted for some reason the email would not be sent. cheers George

There reason for the email is so people can be notified as soon as there is a new post. Sometime posts can be sitting there for quite some time before a moderator hides it. Would you like us to send you a email to notify you that said post has been hidden?

Sometimes we moderators like to converse via hidden posts just to spam your email too.

How does that compare to your sync speed?

Something else I've found interesting, do a "tracert speedtest.xport.co.nz" and see what you results are. Mine have changed:

C:\Users\Tech>tracert speedtest.xport.co.nz

Tracing route to speedtest.xport.co.nz [58.28.5.8]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1    <1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  192.168.1.1
  2    43 ms    44 ms    43 ms  ip-58-28-15-31.wxnz.net [58.28.15.31]  ***this is different***
  3    44 ms    44 ms    43 ms  ge-1-0-0-57-jcore3.wxnz.net [58.28.13.49]
  4    43 ms    44 ms    44 ms  speedtest.xport.co.nz [58.28.5.8]

Trace complete.

C:\Users\Tech>

One of my first hops used to go-to "dsl01" (or something like that). I was getting very bad speeds, but so far based on tonight's results, I suspect I may have been migrated to Xnet's new back-end. From their post, i think this is happening over a period of time this month.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

NZ speeds are very good and International speeds have improved somewhat. Using my Youtube test, the buffer fills very quickly whereas the vid used to stop and stutter. Definitely some good progress for me on the night slowdown front.

Good on ya, Xnet.

Log in to your router and look for a page that has your ADSL stats. This varies between different routers, but your are looking for your downstream speed. If you get stuck, post your router model here.
When you run the speedtest.xport.co.nz test, the speed should closely match your router sync speed (less maybe 10%). If not, then you know there is an issue between you & Xnet (e.g., exchange congestion, Xnet issue on handover etc).

As for tracert, open up a command prompt and type in:
tracert speedtest.xport.co.nz
Paste the results back here.

Yes, this is what I suspect, so was interested in seeing Bruce's tracert to help confirm my suspicion.

Similar to me, i.e. no dsl01 or dsl02 server. Are your speeds ok too?
