just out interest anyone bothered asking what internet browser has been used to conduct the speed test results as I know for fact internet explorer doesn't like max speed fibre. Generally speaking you get results like 200 down and 300 up when using it. Switch to edge and suddenly it improves massively. Better still use the windows speed test app

What router are you using out of interest?

You've mentioned getting the same with the Spark provided one but you've never mentioned what your one actually is

Vigor2860 by DrayTek.

Are you sure the 2860 is even capable of routing a 1gbit wan connection?

From a quick google it appears that it's not capable of much in terms of wan to lan throughput?

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/draytek-2860-wan-throughput.18710865/

It seems to only be capable of max ~300Mbps

You got me wondering so I went playing, and you seem to have got me on the right path.

I changed the Hardware Acceleration setting "If Hardware Acceleration is enabled, then individual sessions processed by the accelerator will by-pass the following features: Traffic Graph, WAN Budget" and that has made big difference. I now get in excess of 900Mbit consistently. (Weak CPU and all...)

I am still somewhat confused, as;

1) I do not have Traffic Graph or WAN Budget active anyway

2) Beats me why replacing the router made no difference.

I must have tested #2 insufficiently or some other PEBCAK error...

Anyways - just wanted to say thanks - you got me on the right track.

Great to hear your now getting the expected results. I hadn't circled back to router because earlier you had replicated the performance with the Huawei 659b.
I shudder to think at the number of people who genuinely don't realise that performance issues can come from even relatively new routers or pcs.
I also have to note that all your Sam knows tests results to date are basically wrong and polluting the data...

I would like to think they look for this and remove the data but I'm not sure.

Glad to hear things are better for you now @ABPH011, that is good news

I'm not sure why, despite not using those features, the vigor was still struggling but I assume it was still doing stuff that was hammering the CPU when running speed tests.

9/10 it's usually the router or client device (testing over wifi, or weak CPU) as opposed to the fibre connection itself.

You can probably see why people get dismissive, but I think most of us were scratching heads if the same issue occurred with the Spark supplied router as that should easily achieve near gbit speeds over ethernet

Have you try to use the speedtest app to run the test? The speed test on browser wont be accurate after you have 500M connection speed. Try to DL from here and test it again http://www.speedtest.net/apps/windows

I have now moved over to Stuff Fiber and here my first SamKnows report card that covers only Stuff (there is no overlap with Spark re timelines).

(It says Misc. for Provider because they said StuffFiber is not on their list of providers.)
