IPoE you are getting an address via DHCP rather than PPP. You are eliminating the PPP client as a potential problem by changing from one system to the other. Where is that log coming from?

Via Ping or other methods. i've got multiple UptimeRobot probes monitoring my connection. Here is one from "Ping" - I can account for all the downtime which is due to firmware experiements on my Edgerouter so combined I can safely say 4mo since the last Chorus / BigPipe connection drop. This is on a IPoE connection via VLAN 10.

It has the IP address and a port I have given it, I actually test on 5 services incase it's the server (it's not). If it cant connect it calls it down, if it can connect it calls it up.

But I stress I started the checking because I could not connect to the web or my ssh multiple times.

Is the RouterOS log showing corresponding connection drops? First thing is to try and rule out is if the issue is actually at your end - while unlikely, your connection may be up, but there is no valid route to it (for example).

I have static IP with Bigpipe on VDSL.

the only downtime I've had in the last 2 years have been

1) when I unplugged my modem when I moved my office to another room (of course)

2) a couple of wider network outages - but I haven't had one of those for several months (maybe a year?)

3) couple of late night downtimes for maintenance (with advance warning from BP) - haven't had one of these for a while either.

I would expect most consumer ISPs to have this sort of thing.

If you need 100% uptime you should expect to pay a lot more $$ for that.

What how far away are those servers? The more hops there are between you and a server the greater chance there would be dropouts during that time.

What qualify's a server to be down? IMCP Ping? Timeout? retry? Count?

yes, a daily outage would definitely be considered outside the norm.

Are you doing any unusual traffic patterns that might overload the connection/router?

Web, mail, ssh ports timeout for several minutes at a time. And the fact that I cant log in from <20km away for several minutes at a time, or when I am on I get disconnected for a few mins at a time. They coincide with the uptime robot sites reports. It really is unreachable during these times. Prior to this for 3 years no problems. Upgraded the server hardware 16 months ago, again uptime was probably 99.9%+ (it is easy to tell when a voice connection drops for example) although I dont have data to prove it.

Any way, I do not know for sure this is a router problem or BigPipe problem, so I'll check the logs in a few hours and see.

Nothing strenuous at the moment, it's a gigabit connection and the server is not live as such. So it is low usage, and the only scheduled traffic that would be even close to heavy (its light, download from steam servers ~3gb of data) is every 30 mins on the hour and half past, these downtimes don't coincide with that.

I'm guessing that you are using ether1 as the WAN, and the item being added as that comes back up is your PPP interface.

The odd thing is from the logs is you have multiple ports dropping at the same time (1, 5, 9), across both switch groups. I saw @sbiddle comment in your other (removed) thread - not sure if he has seen the background in this one.
