Aredwood: I have been in contact with Internet.bs And yes I managed to get my .com domains transferred. Im now using Internet.bs to directly park my .com domains. Im never using a reseller ever again. Using 1st domains now for hosting and .co.nz domains. I forwarded them emailed invoices for internet and cellphone. And pointed them to the companies office search. Since my domain name is also my company name.

Out of interest, how long did they take to come back to you once you'd provided the proof of identity?

Within 24 hrs for myself. To get to that point was 5 days though.

It was the same day for me. But is seems like they are doing some background checks before transferring the domains. Which is good.

If you're referring to Voyager / 1stDomains being a little slow to get back to you yes, we obviously got swamped from the 24/7 Fallout, but we are now rapidly getting stuck into the support queue and have brought a bunch more technical staff into the support queues to help get answer times down. And yes - we are being very careful with any transfers, checking Identity etc, as the last thing we want to have happen is for 24/7 to have all these problems, but then for us to transfer a domain name to someone who shouldn't have control of it. This is being compounded by the fact that 24/7 have registered maybe 10-20% of the domain names in their own name, rather than the proper Registrant, which makes sorting all this out much harder. Rest assured we're working as hard as possible to assist.

Cheers

I was asking about Internet.bs's response timeframe but not sure if the responses were for them or 1stdomains

That's quite scary as presumably the registrant is the "legal" owner of a domain right? (In which case since the customer was paying for it does that mean it could be classified as theft?)

Lucky for me one .com wasn't actually transferred into 24/7 (but they billed me so am doing a chargeback). The other happens to be with 1st Domains already so should be easy. All my .nz domains are sorted and under a shiny new 1st Domains account.

Waited less than 3 minutes when calling by phone so suggest you do that rather than wait for them to process emails.

And this one

I wasn't going to post any more but this is starting to wind me up now.

My name is Simon and I have about 20 odd sites that I maintain on a "let me manage it for you" basis. I have a couple of reseller accounts and make clear to my clients that I resell others services. My sites are mainly entry level ones for businesses that are new to online business and have neither the time nor the budget to do it themselves. I charge small monthly or yearly fees and have no intention of becoming a reseller "player". What gets my goat is the level some resellers go to, to pretend that they "have their own datacentres" etc. 24/7 is not the only one.
I remember years ago when I first started, I didn't do my research properly and my first attempt went belly up (not owing money thank god) but I learned simple things like dont the love of god don't register domains for people in your own name.

I am older and wiser now. It's not my full time job, but I cover a market of people who will go online trusting me to do the right thing by them. If people want to contact me they have my cell. They can go online and get my home address and THEY own their domain names.

There are far too many "companies" reselling that only have a contact form as a point of contact and think that a "ticket" protects everyone. Mr Finlay (having just restored C&E Finlay Ltd in the last month) neither puts his name to anything nor during the time I hosted with him was mentioned in any tickets or online announcements or problems. Company addresses appear fraudulent, registered offices are either boarded up (as above) or old.

Klib Technologies has a registered office in Auckland - but I doubt there is anyone there. I have one person email me some news (that a couple of regulars here have voiced similar suspicions), but what is more disturbing is people PM'ing me telling me all sorts of stuff without anything to back it up. If you are going to accuse someone of something you bloody well better have the balls to put your name to it so I can have some measure of confidence in what you are saying. I won't make it public on here - but show some kahunas.

I know Steve Amstad used to have 24/7. I know Caleb supposedly bought it off Tim Johnson at some time (the order may be wrong..but anyway). Anyone can look that up. I never looked this stuff up initially because when I first joined 24/7, they answered the phone and responded to tickets. It is only when things started going wrong that I got out and went to someone else. I don't believe 24/7 has any staff in this country, if there is any staff at all. I think there are going to be some very interested media stories coming up and I hope they will save me having to do a road trip (and I will - I have plenty of time owing) to confirm what I think I already know.
I hope I'm wrong - maybe someone will jump in and correct me. But I don't think so - I will never go back to the company no matter who runs it. And if it reappears in any other shape or form, you can bet that without something a bit more concrete VERY soon - I will be the first to blow the whistle on who is actually running it. That goes for the person that emailed me earlier too...

Rant over...

For anyone interested: the current parent company's details, there are a couple - presumably - new addresses since a recent buyout?

Auckland "Office" address

Napier "Service" address

Everything seems a little bit "covered up" with little transparency within the company.

-A.
