Doesn't Samsung have a global warranty policy?

NZtechfreak: Phonearena full review proper is up now:

http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Samsung-Galaxy-S-II-Review_id2728

Read through this thinking they are looking for faults in this review, and then saw them pushing the iPhone and the penny dropped. Then I came to the comments and it seems others are thinking the same.

The review itself didn't seem too negative to me - but scoring an iPhone 4 a 10/10? Ha ha ha ha ha...

Bit of a credibility problem right there. In fact, if the SGS2 had scored a 10, I'd have said that these guys have lost their sense of perspective. Although the fans for Apple and Android will take the euphoria or the offense to heart, it won't make a blind bit of difference to the masses who manage to not be defined by their choice of mobile handset, and who will buy the SGS2 by the millions.

Wee prediction here... this phone (including the carrier-specific derivatives) will outsell the iPhone. Big call, I know, but I actually believe this will happen. And good luck to Samsung for having the nuts to go for it. :-)

Cheers,
R2D2

Galaxy S has gone to its new owner. HTC Sensation has gone to its new
owner. Galaxy S3 has gone to its new owner. Now using Galaxy Note 3. Skipping Note 4 I think...

I actually thought it was pretty well balanced.

Placed my order earlier this morning and now need to confirm I am who I say I am with Clove. Didn't realise that was involved but I suppose it's a good thing.

OT
I'm a bit frustrated that ANZ doesn't have the reference number that Clove ask for and I will have to go to a branch and ask for a printout with my details on it to send them. I guess I could have done that earlier had I known. Oh well.

Hmm. I've got some bad news for you then. Their SGSII page now states: Shipping expected to begin from the MobiCity warehouse on the 6/7th of May. Add shipping and you'll be well into next week (usually 1-3 days to Metro destinations and 5 days to Regional destinations).

Oh well, looks like a Tue/Wed delivery next week. Maybe Mon if I'm really lucky. I shall have to pace anxiously until then Tongue out.

Just send them a copy of your passport or something like that.

I support this prediction :)

The first Galaxy S wasn't marketed as well as the iPhone 4, but has almost sold 15 million units!  Was at 10 million in Jan

What was the last figure for iPhone sales, was it 21 million?
Verizon has announced a really rapid slowdown and lowered their forecast for the Verizon iPhone as well...

If they can get the Galaxy 3 out around the same time as the iPhone 5, with similar hardware specs, maybe a 4.5" screen as suggested and a magnesium back...or carbon fibre, mmmm carbon fibre.  But the same OS/Rom Compatibility/Unlocked boot loaders then this will help seal the deal :)

Speaking of that, wonder if we'll see any carbon fibre battery covers to replace the current plastic ones on the Galaxy S 2?  I'd be willing to buy one.  If they don't, I might just buy a 30x30 sheet of fibre and some resin and try craft one up

I had a little bit of a problem with my ID to clove, I used a new credit card I haven't got a statement for, so I sent them an old one with my address on it, which they emailed me back about, after I explained the situation to them I emailed them a scan of my drivers license, which also has my address on it and that was fine. I was a little surprised I had to do it again since I brought my desire off them, almost a exactly a year ago from the some login.

Royal Mails tracking isn't really as specific as FedEx I noticed, just says it is being processed for delivery abroad. Don't know if that means its being processed to leave the UK or its already left, the former I would think.

ancalag0n: Mines on it's way from Clove as well, via Airsure Tracked Mail Cool

Incidentally the HTC Desire S that my partner ordered from Clove via Airsure Tracked Mail arrived yesterday and she wasn't stung GST (just saying).

How was that delivered locally? DHL/NZ post Courier?

4.5 inches would not be a good idea  I think.  Already many people think 4.3 inches is too big and that 4 inches was about right, no point in going even further out.
I read that the only reason samsung went to 4,3 inches this time is that they didn't have the tech to get a non pentile on the 4 inche samoled plus so had to expand the screen size a bit.

I cant remember who delivered it locally actually but I remember the "Tracking" was non existant.
It arrived at my house and it wasn't until a few days later that the tracking was updated to say delivered
You won't get any tracking at all apart from to say its left the UK.

Apple's delay of the iPhone 5 release will certainly help. If Samsung can get the big US carriers to push the SGS2, they can probably get a few months of good sales under their belts. And if people have the SGS2, there's not a lot more that the iPhone would be able to offer.

And on that note, it'll be interesting to see if the iPhone 5 ships with NFC. Current reports are that Apple have decided against NFC for now, as very few places are using it and there's no clear NFC standard as yet. Given that Samsung have decided to sell non-NFC SGS2's in various regions, the inclusion of a NFC chip might be one way to compete against the SGS2.

I don't think anyone doubts that the iPhone will continue to increase sales, irrespective of the rumoured delay of the iP5, and if Android weren't the flavour du jour, Apple would own the smartphone market. But thankfully for the consumer, Android is gaining momentum and you're right that Apple's decision to launch iP5 later (September appears likely), will mean a longer period of folk holding off buying prior to iP5's release.

If the iP5 is the warmed-over iP4 of rumour, then that too will likely make a dent in the phone's growth, although it will most certainly grow. It has that cachet in the popular imagination. I just don't believe it will grow at the rate that the SGS2 will with its SGS1 credentials and its steller spec. Not to mention the Android bandwagon is still picking up speed.

So if Sammy can make 'em, they'll sell as fast as any handset yet. Or faster.

(Really going out on a limb I guess, but barring some unforeseen disaster like a Japan-style quake in Korea, it seems unlikely to me that they won't be top dog in 12 months time).

NFC could be introduced mid-cycle as an SGS2 N model or somesuch if needed I expect.

Cheers,
R2D2

Hmm. Had another look at the site a couple of mins ago and spotted this: First batch arrives at our warehouse today (05/05/11) and will begin shipping this afternoon. This is from their Hong Kong Warehouse though.

I'm quite sure you're not the only one pacing anxiously. Now that I'm a stay-at-home dad/student I'll be jumping at the sound of any vehicle pulling up outside from Monday next week. After having three kids I thought I had awesome patience - I was so wrong...
