Maybe, but all it takes is for some miffed person, an importer for example, or just someone who hates seeing people get stuff without paying tax to fire them an email to say there are 500 phones hitting the beaches this weekend. Also there was a lot of talk about misrepresenting the value of imports in one of the forums, that would p1ss a lot of people off.

Best bet is not to say anything.

Has anyone here with a SGSII sent with Royal Mail managed to progress beyond "Arrived in New Zealand" and have a current status that's anything other than "Held for clearance"? If so, what does yours show?

Well lets remember it is the law to pay GST.
I sit in the middle and I think if the customs declaration is correct and says the correct value and it makes it through the gauntlet then you consider yourself lucky and so be it.
What I don't really like is the falsifying of records by some companies which is on another scale in my book.  Its one thing for customs to miss a few personal items but its another for companeis to write false values and change the type of phone etc to cheat the system and basically cheat NZ.

No idea if customs read this, I doubt it really.  I doubt the numbers of sgs2's coming through would be of great interest to them actually... They must have sooooo much to sort.

Dont get me wrong, my phone is a company phone so GST is not a concern for me at all, DHL already have our GST deferred account so it should go straight through (that and the fact I had them pre-clear it).

What I am saying is that is folks are crowing about avoiding GST then dont be surprised if in this case a little extra attention is given to recent imports.

Local suppliers may mount a campaign like in Australia to ensure all imports are charged GST. Yes, count yourself lucky when GST is overlooked.

Perhaps talk about Customs, best place to buy etc should be on another thread?

I'm not moaning about it or anything, I brought it entirely keeping in mind I would have to pay GST on it. But who wouldn't want to save $100+ dollars? plus no one likes tax. I'm more worried about it slowing down the arrival time.

Likewise. Being GST registered, I'll just claim the GST back anyway, but the delay is the biggest pain considering my LG P500 is off to its new owner tomorrow.

Probably would save admin costs for everyone if if just slipped through. Looks like it's back to the old dumbphone until the new toy arrives. .

Dang it, if only I lived in Auckland. Then i'd get all my packages a day earlier :( Mine departed the facility in Auckland just before 8am on it's way here to Wellington I guess.

NZtechfreak: Nice one, i'm pleased someone in NZ actually has one in their hot sweaty hands.

Yes, I have mine too :) mine arrived at 7.02am this morning through RoyalMail :)...although it was just left on my doorstep, no sign for. not that I mind too much, I was getting changed at the time and when I got there I thought "oh, another ebay package...then noticed the customs declaration 'handheld computer' and 440 pounds"

NZTechFreak did you get the Clove microfibre cloth too? Good addition I thought(never received one with my original Galaxy S)

Was also surprised at how light it is!! I think they've managed to use the same box as the original Galaxy S, but just with a slightly different top plastic piece.

Headphones are exactly the same too, apart from the extra earpieces. Not that I'm complaining, the original Galaxy S headphones were great in my experience!

Really impressed so far by:

- The front facing camera, wow, it's amazingly clear!!! even in low light aka my dungeon/office
- The rear camera, the flash is quite bright but not too overpowering(just have to work out how to turn that shutter sound off
- The new apps menu, it's transparent and you can scroll straight through it, instead of stopping at the last page(ie Galaxy S original)
- The weight, so light
- The size, not that much bigger than my original and sits better in my hand
- The construction, when all put together it feels great.  The plastic battery cover is a tad cheap(looks like black polystyrene underneath) but the texture is great
- The smoothness of the touchscreen, it feels like silk, even better than the original Galaxy S screen
- Odd....my phone set up APNs for me automatically....maybe 2degrees does auto APNs now? haven't put my account details in, just popped in the sim card and then noticed the 3G+ icon.  Went into Network settings adn there my APNs were.  Creepy!
