I ended up getting a cheap silicone case from digital imports until I get a better one from overseas.

This is my first android phone, coming from an iPhone, and the lack of accessories is a bit lame but oh well

Yes... and no... You can downgrade the Smart plan after 6 months but still receive the double minutes offer, my employer reimburses me for my monthly charges (so the only cost I have is the phone itself) and I wouldn't really consider moving networks as I have vodafone family which is well used by everyone in the group... so yes.. it was 'cheap'.

Well... I read the same thing, but the manager at Auckland Downtown Vodafone insisted that you'll still recieve them if you downgrade plan (obviously at double the lower rate)... Seemed strange to me, but I asked several times and got the same answer.

I can't see myself downgrading any time soon anyway...

I grabbed a SGSII on smart 2, moving across from 2Degrees $29/mth pay monthly plan + $20 broadband addon...

Based on taking both plans out for an equal 24 months, I will spend $1471 on VF vs $1176 on 2D

Double minutes on VF gives me a total of 2880 minutes over 24 mths vs 2640 minutes on 2D (based on 60/mth + 100 extra minutes for 12 months)

VF give me a $500 hardware discount vs $110 on 2D, as well as national wide 3G cover

I am not suggesting  VF is a heads out winner but their plans hold their own and for me at least represent the best value on the market at present

You could argue that the added monthly cost of $12.30 is actually $4/mth saving if you take the total cost less the subsidies :P

defnz: Anyone know where I can buy an S2 case in Wellington?

Edit: Preferably a "barely there" one

I don't think this case is available in NZ at the moment. I've searched and searched to no avail. If you find one, please let me know!.. Love the "Barely There" cases...

I got a Case-Mate 'Barely There' case from Clove UK and it's a beautiful case. Took 5-6 days to arrive.

I bought a desk dock from them at the same time. There is enough space in the receptacle part of the dock that, with some minor modifications to the dock (shaving away a little plastic) the SGS2 will fit in the dock and the micro USB connection still works with the case still on the phone - which is pretty handy.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I went into Vodafone today to have a play with the SG2. Oh Boy is it slick!! *drool*

I have the money to buy one from JB HiFi (Dunedin) for $1,147.00 (around that), but I know as soon as I buy it I'll be hit with either a big bill or buyer's remorse (probably both).

I'll wait for a different sales assistant to be working then I'll go back in for another play :D

Hopefully the next assistant wont 'hover' over me like they're expecting me to make a run with it, or buy it.

cokeman2:
i brought the sgs 2 of these guys(tech brand) few weeks back , phone turned up in 3 days of payment , ph was factory selaed and also gave me a free power plug adapter :),cant say nothing bad

I've just discovered that TechBrands are [Edit: now] based in Dunedin and are only 3.2 km away from where I live!! Here's me thinking that all the parallel import business are North Island based, not on my doorstep!

My options are:

TechBrands $925.00
JB HiFi $1,147.00
Vodafone $1,200.00

I inadvertently discovered their location whilst looking through customer feedback statements on PriceSpy. The owner (of TechBrands) had written a response to a negative feedback comment.

I'm thinking that when (or if) I place my order, I'll ask to make a pick up, would save time all round.

L.

I would advise you to have a look at the Expert Infotech reviews on PriceSpy. Plenty of people have left feedback, and the store rates fairly highly. (My only dealing with them so far has been purchasing a DSLR camera, and that went without incident.)

From what I can gather, the biggest cause of concern with them is with warranty issues. It appears that their policy is that the item has to be returned to them, and they then send it back to the country of origin. So if your phone came from Hong Kong, you'd need to wait a few weeks while the phone's sent back there for repair.
