nofam:
lokhor: Have any of you guys tried the recently leaked KP8 ICS rom?

I am a little wary as others have reported instability.

Nah, not worth it IMO - I'm really keen to get my hands on a stable release, but I hate the stock Samsung theme they've put on it (horrible gaudy menu's etc), and the KP8 is barely a beta-quality release.

FWIW though, the KP8 modem is great; fantastic battery life, and fast 3G speeds too.

True enough on KP8 for battery life & 3G speed, but the voice quality is that bad I am considering reverting.

Just a wee note re S2 voice quality; I have had no end of complaint from "the other party" during calls that their voice is echoed back to them. (what is the correct term for this?) I had advice from Telecom that there has been several such complaints and they advise discarding the plastic cover purchased from them and to turn down the vol' and to get a new sim. All of which I have done but still have the problem Telecom have checked quality of reception at my address and see no issue with that.

Do you have the problem in other locations? Do you have the issue if you put in a VF Sim? Tried a backup and factory reset?

Cheers

It's called 'call echo'.... And is the bane of modernsystems technology.

Personally I find the S2 to be really poor in terms of all radios. Wifi, Bluetooh, gps, wcdma and  gsm are all rubbish compared to Nokia.

Trolling? :P Have you read the FUG lately? Apart from defining "call echo" you haven't made an attempt to assist our fellow GZ member with his issue.

I also have a Nokia as well as a SG2. Nokias are always excellent for call quality, however my S2 is pretty good all round also. I don't have any complaints whatsoever. Could be all sorts of reasons for his issues.

@bbadeggs worth trying the above solution. The modem just might need a refresh.

I agree with him actually. No exaggeration to say I have owned 100 phones, and Samsung Phones are inferior in call quality and signal strength to Nokia and Sony in my opinion.

hehe, might be why i still have a Nokia handy! Also owned mobiles going back to the mid 90s.. Nokia yes, excellent call quality but I also thought Motorola was decent as well.

I had major issues with echo once i put a belkin silicon cover on, took me a while to realise this was the case (as i switched modems at the same time and thought it was related to that but that is another story!), sounds like you have the issue with or without the case so this may not help but I have switched off noise cancelling function and can now use silicon case with no echo. I am not 100% sure but you may need to be using CWM bootloader to action this. Have a read around XDA forums they might be able to shed some light on other causes.

I had the same issue, tried numerous modems but same result until someone suiggested taking off the silicon cover, not an issue after that. Not sure the make of mine but try taking it off and making a call, it may just work.

As for Nokia call quality, start a new thread Nokia v SGS 2 that should be interesting :)

I got mine off expert infotech and when I make and receive calls the person on the other end would always get echo while I had my silicon case on. The funny thing is that a friend of mine has the exact same phone and case but no echo.

I took it back and they sent it back to Samsung who replaced the motherboard on my phone and now theres no echo even with the cover on.

Only downside was that I was left without a phone for a week :(

If you are on a CWM rom just flash the noise reduction mod and no more echo, problem solved :)

I am trying to find an app for managing my ToDo list. I need an android, pc (Not web) and perhaps IOS Version so I can sync between them. If anyone knows of something, please let me know.

Do we also have a consensus of the best ROM's right now, I heard DarkyROM and CheckHD

Not sure if its exactly what you are after but Any.DO is awesome for syncing PC Gmail tasks to android

+1 for Checkrom with ICS theme, try it and I doubt you will ever look back ;)
