Don't know mate, I just plugged it in and it told me there was a update. I can assure you I've used no other program to update.

Maybe it depends on where the phone originally come from as to whether the firmware has been released for that region?

That's exactly the case. The particular release of phone you have needs to be in Samsungs list for deployment.  There's no tidy way around it really, the best bet is to use Odin to flash the firmware from samfirmware.com.

psychrn: Well im committed to the Galaxy s2 now as my Iphone 4 was sold today and picked up tonight.
Ive had it 5 days and am really wrapped with it.
I used the Navigation function on it today and was really impressed with its fast response, recalculation and accuracy in use.
I bought one of the universal remotes from Digital Mobile for $30 and it is very sturdy and does the job well.
I had a USB car plug and was able to connect the supplied USB cable and my phone is on the charge.

Hard to believe after 3 years of Iphone use have I made the switch and been converted to android

I can't believe you have ditched Apple after all this time psychrn. Welcome to "greener" pastures  Smile

Guys and gals... I need someone to mentally pat me on the shoulder :(

I STILL haven't rooted/flashed my phone yet because I'm... too scared of screwing up :(

I need an idiot's guide to getting it right the first time *sighs* ~_~

Not one to put you off but if you don't need it, don't do it. I'm happy with a stock SG2. Do you really need it?

Support a locally made Linux based Operating System, try Linux Lite.

Yup. I want to remove certain Samsung installed apps (including the hubs) and I want to update the firmware. I'm using apps to customise but I want to customise it even more.

If it's not a rude question John, how much did your iP4 go for? A family member paid $780 recently for a near new one - same reason; somebody gearing up for an SGS2 - and I think a colleague's planning on doing the same as you.

If it's a sensitive issue, no offence taken.

Ta,

Galaxy S has gone to its new owner. HTC Sensation has gone to its new
owner. Galaxy S3 has gone to its new owner. Now using Galaxy Note 3. Skipping Note 4 I think...

Pretty good deal for your mate, I'd have to say. Wasn't such a good deal for my bro-in-law tho'.

:-)

Ah well, market forces and all.

Thx and cheers,
