Hi

I've been with slingshot since February and i have VDSL2 running at my place the speeds are double what i used to to get on Telstraclear ADSL. My speed currently is 26mbps DL and 10 UL and a ping of 30. But when i play First person shooter games i have noticed some serious lag. For example i would JUST see a enemy yet they have seen me for alot longer and be shooting at me already and then i'm dead... i have NO DROPOUTS at all when i play its just not SMOOTH as my existing connection and i face the problem mentioned above.

When i was with Telstraclear ADSL2+ i had 14DL and 1UL and a ping of 60 yet i had never experienced this problem in fact I WAS THE ONE who saw everyone first.
I know that when you play online games its all about the upstream speeds and ping but my current stats are so many times better than my existing company yet i lag even when im the host of the match.

I was reading through the forums and i noticed that my attenuation for my upstream is 102.3dB and my downstream is 11.0. That upstream attenuation seems ALOT higher than other customers? Is this normal?

If not is there a problem with my wiring, is it the modem or some other problem.

What should i do?????

Someone please help I'm really fed up with my connection.

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

 


 

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

 



 

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

first answer all peter readers questions

then post up what game you play, what server you play, and the ip address of the server.

then get a ping/trace program and set it up to record to your server while you play and see if there are any lag spikes.

then come back to us. there is not a lot we can do with the info you have provided

Good, that cuts out a range of possible causes then.

are you connecting to local peers? (local being NZ/AUS sorta area)

if your going to the US for peers, i could see there possibly being issues.

Im nowhere near a PS3, but i do recall there is a function to measure things like packetloss and latency on there?

Give that tool a good run through, see if it doesn't point out any issues.

Also your speed test in the OP, is that to your closest server, from a hardwired pc?

Yea thats a speedtest, it doesn't test the quality of the connection.

but i get 14DL and 4.1 UL basically half my total connection speeds currently which is normal for a ps3 to cut speeds in half

The full speed test is 25DL and 10 UL from a hard wired PC with no other running traffic in the background on the closest server

on your hardwired computer, with nothing else using the connection

open your start menu, type cmd and hit enter.
