So if you are trying all the possible combinations what are the chances of hitting on some that match your neighbours doors?

That's excellent do they live in Wellington would they rent it for a few hours. I can buy the same remote from nz for about $80, however have seen on ebay Australia for a lot less.

Are you fairly confident with those specs you quoted, are they from memory or from the link i posted.

Apologies for the delay, I didn't subscribe to the thread and it isn't the usual topic I lurk on so I didn't see it.  But my folks aren't in Wellington unfortunately, though I could check with them to see if they are happy for me to send you the remote to try.  Having said that, it looks like you have a couple of remotes ordered and awaiting receipt of.

But the specs were as I quoted - I took some photos of it the other day, and will post them here (hopefully they aren't too oversized - forum image uploading can be treacherous).  I did change the switch combination before taking the snaps in case anyone was wondering!

Anyhow, let me know how you get on and if you require any assistance..!

I had one pretty similar to that, one remote didnt work.  Ordered 2cheap ones off ebay

Just 8 dip switches.  I had to guess the combination of one door, took me about 6 attempts ( I got very lucky, i wasnt doing them in order, i was just wildly guessing).

Doors that use this  remote don't seem much more secure than a briefcase with the 3 digit pin.

Yes.  May need some wiggling of the key, the whole barrel should come out with wire to the manual release lever attached.

Note that some of the new auto units with a c-channel rather than a chain on a pole, the manual release lever releases a pin which may lock into several holes in the channel. You need to get past those holes before the door will open freely without continuing to hold the manual release lever down.

Many of them won;t have the handle and key connected at all, and the handle on the outside is solely for show. That is how it is on our one. Luckily we do have a door going into the garage to get access when the door decides to die.

A good squirt of CRC will help too. turn the key and wiggle until the barrel comes out and brings a steel wire with it, then pull to disengage the motor mechanism...

Do you have something like this:

Put the roller door back onto the ground
Then is there another wire that will reengage the motor?

I assume i want to reengage the motor with the door fully closed as that was the position when i disengaged it?
