Dingbatt:Obraik:Up until the next shipment, all Tesla's in NZ still have radar.
That’s interesting. I assumed that my M3 that was built in Shanghai in January was a camera only one. Is there any way to tell by looking at it?

Thanks. I just had a look at the TeslaNZ website and it says “Transitioning to Tesla Vision from June 2022”.
I turned auto high beam off because it was too slow reacting. And less than 3 on the ACC is waaaay too close for me to be comfortable.

I usually have that set to 5-7 or something, it gets very jumpy at something like 3
Auto high beam sucks (well did not tried it for ages)
Maybe they could use “Advanced Autopilot” instead of FSD as a name. (I know there was an FSD lite called AA in the past). Then people might be less expectant of being able to be chauffeured somewhere by their $70000 car.
I like some of the features they are trying to achieve. However, automatic navigation of city streets is beyond the capability of sensor/computer packages available at the moment (imo). Too much data for the system to handle.
And as for Stuff, remember “News articles like this don’t write themselves. Please support quality journalism”

Strange how its a thing. An actual thing. Working (mostly) in USA right now.

Yes I agree, but it’s like putting a chimp behind the wheel. Mostly okay, occasionally not.

But you asserted the sensor/computer package isnt up to it, why?
Perhaps the FSD3 computer isnt capable of the nessicary safety vs humans, if thats so tesla will replace it with one that is.

I use 3 or 4 on the motorway but I find in crawling traffic that if it's anything other than 1 then it leaves enough of a gap that people are constantly jumping into the gap it creates. I do keep auto-highbeams turned on in the settings menu but I still manually engage them. There are times when I'm the slow one to react and the car will turn them off quicker than me so I feel it's a good safety net to have.
Anyway, I think we've gone wildly off the topic of EV news at this point lol.

Because the number of unforeseeable situations that occur on city streets would likely overwhelm the computational capability of the automated system. The current system is fine on a divided motorway system where traffic is flowing in the same direction but I cringe when I see videos of people using FSD on two lane roads.
My experience comes from 35 years of operating these type of automated systems and some design work on human-machine interfaces.

I'm surprised we have such a world expert on AI and neuralnets in here!
You better explain to Karpathy etc how they cant do it.
btw I am a SW dev with 38 years of experience and dabbled a bit with ML, I know I dont know anywhere near enough to make a call on this.
Deleted response.
No point in arguing.

I don't know whether the Telsa system uses augmented GPS but many "self drive" systems rely on augmented GPS signals, something that's available in most of the developed world but we don't have here in New Zealand, not yet anyway.

RobDickinson:
The FSD package does all the things listed that it says it currently does?
My understanding is it does not provide the headline thing. "Full Self-Driving Capability".
And I am not sure about the Full Self-Driving Computer. Without the software to provide full self driving capability, it is a stretch to call it this name.
I don't have an issue with the technology / feature's that Tesla is putting out, but think the naming / marketing is deceptive. Marketing it as "Enhanced Autopilot & future self driving" would be more reflective of the current product offering.
Scott3:

The FSD package is a bunch of stuff, obviously, and clearly, the self driving on city streets thing isnt released to the public yet ( or even finished)

So the thing with this is if the current hardware isnt up to it it will be replaced with one that is.
More wilful misintepretation
Oh and the NHSTA report is out and its as expected utter garbage, even them themselves say you shouldnt use it to draw any conclusions.
