pystol: What sort of forum is this?
pystol: If an unofficial spokesperson is going to 'wimp off' over comments like that, well ......... I better not say any more than that.

Ragnor:doozy: So what apparently don't we care about? We put out pretty decent offers for new connections, we also run a fair few retention offers as well
I think there are quite a few ex Big Timer users who are in the 60-180GB / month usage range who are currently on Pro trying to restrict their normal usage down while looking around at other ISP's pricing with itchy feet.
For example Total Home Lite + Pro (I'm in Auckland) is $120, if we use 60GB (20 over the Pro 40) we're looking at $160 /month.
We could go to Maxnet Pure DSL 60GB for $125 + Xnet XFV ($11.95) and save $23 per month. Even more savings if we're willing to sacrifice a bit of peak time international performance (eg: Snap and Vodafone etc), which we are.
To us 60GB+ @ 5Mbit is way more useful than 40GB @ 10Mbit, that's what made Big Time great imo.. $100 /month for Phone + Internet of 60GB+ was really good value.
If double data was available to existing users in exchange for being on a new 12 month contract, we would definitely take it up and stop bothering to weigh the alternatives with itchy feet.
doozy: We've done the DYD offer for new customers a few times before, it works because it is an acquisition offer and a contract is involved, as in these customers haven't already had some kind of deal from us.
I admit the timing of this particular offer was poor but the decision to go ahead was made well above my pay grade.
As far as why it wasn't offered to ex-Big Time customers? Well, it gets a little tricky, I would say most of them have already had some kind of sweetener to come to Telecom, so that already puts us in a negative position, now, I would have to stand back from this offer for a second and consider a longer term, let's say we did offer DYD to ex-Big Timers on pro, as previously mentioned this works (just) as an acquisition offer so putting it to ease the withdrawal I'm sure would keep SOME people happy, not everyone. Now what happen's at the end of that period? I couldn't guarantee we'd have a plan in place to suit your high data requirements and more than likely if the offer wasn't extended you would leave, this would most definitely end with us having a negative balance for having you as a customer, as much as I would have liked to do the DYD offer, there is no chance that offer would be signed off by my financial overlords.
jeffreyh:
While you say that the DYD is to attract new users you have no guarantee that they won't leave at the end of 12mnths. So that argument that you might loose an existing user if you offer them the same deal doesn't make sense? I would think that in the end its easier to retain existing user if you are offering good/competitive plans and/or packages.
richms: So again government meddling screws things up.
Can you explain why telecom have still got no naked dsl plans? They seem to be the only one able to provide a usable evening time service with the lousy contention other ISPs are forced to deal with.
