Votan was banned because of his PM to me. He stepped way out of line.

pystol: What sort of forum is this?

This is a forum where everyone must follow the rules, otherwise things get out of control.

pystol: If an unofficial spokesperson is going to 'wimp off' over comments like that, well ......... I better not say any more than that.

Doozy is not an unofficial spokesperson, neither an official spokesperson. There are no "official" Telecom person here. Whatever he does is a favour to users here.

Just look what happened with JohnR in our Vodafone forums. Someone stepped out of the way to make him feel uncomfortable, and he decided to stop helping people.

Consider yourself lucky we have people that help here, without being in their job description.

Respect goes both ways. And it's in our forum usage guidelines. If anyone think being disrespectful will get things done, well, this is the wrong way.

Back on topic please.

Did you encourage him? Asked with respect. I mean, I might have felt a little peeved off at the last response you made to Votan in this thread.

No, I did not encourage him. Now if you don't mind going back on topic. IIRC you have already been warned by another moderator before.

Someone on Trademe has suggested that Telecom has been offering "Double Data" to some existing customers. Is that true?

Well if this is the case I'll try calling tomorrow and seeing what happens. What should I say?

pystol:

I'm still wondering how Telecom justify charging us more money for less service.

Regulation. Im wondering how they are getting away with the double data deal myself.

They will have to come out with double data plans soon or they've shot themselves in the foot again and will be paying in court. They can't give some customers double data while others paying the same recieve half! Brainless and stupid but I guess it's telecom so what do you expect.

Ragnor:
doozy: So what apparently don't we care about?  We put out pretty decent offers for new connections, we also run a fair few retention offers as well

I think there are quite a few ex Big Timer users who are in the 60-180GB / month usage range who are currently on Pro trying to restrict their normal usage down while looking around at other ISP's pricing with itchy feet.

For example Total Home Lite + Pro (I'm in Auckland) is $120, if we use 60GB (20 over the Pro 40) we're looking at $160 /month.

We could go to Maxnet Pure DSL 60GB for $125 + Xnet XFV ($11.95) and save $23 per month.  Even more savings if we're willing to sacrifice a bit of peak time international performance (eg: Snap and Vodafone etc), which we are.

To us 60GB+ @ 5Mbit is way more useful than 40GB @ 10Mbit, that's what made Big Time great imo.. $100 /month for Phone + Internet of 60GB+ was really good value.

If double data was available to existing users in exchange for being on a new 12 month contract, we would definitely take it up and stop bothering to weigh the alternatives with itchy feet.

Wink

We've done the DYD offer for new customers a few times before, it works because it is an acquisition offer and a contract is involved, as in these customers haven't already had some kind of deal from us.

I admit the timing of this particular offer was poor but the decision to go ahead was made well above my pay grade.

As far as why it wasn't offered to ex-Big Time customers?  Well, it gets a little tricky, I would say most of them have already had some kind of sweetener to come to Telecom, so that already puts us in a negative position, now, I would have to stand back from this offer for a second and consider a longer term, let's say we did offer DYD to ex-Big Timers on pro, as previously mentioned this works (just) as an acquisition offer so putting it to ease the withdrawal I'm sure would keep SOME people happy, not everyone.  Now what happen's at the end of that period?  I couldn't guarantee we'd have a plan in place to suit your high data requirements and more than likely if the offer wasn't extended you would leave, this would most definitely end with us having a negative balance for having you as a customer, as much as I would have liked to do the DYD offer, there is no chance that offer would be signed off by my financial overlords.

There is no way you'd have a negative balance if we left. You guys over charge us so much its ridiculous. We pay you guys for our internet (pro 40gb) + total home + mobile + a tivo and thats close to $180+ a month and all we've gotten from you was a modem when we signed up for the 1GB broadband plan donkeys years ago and the cheap plastic thomson modem you hand out when we signed for 24months early this year.

My parents have been with you guys since they started living together like 18-20 years ago+. I remember dial up when I was a child.

Give us value for our money, esp. us loyal customers. You guys treating new customers better will give us more incentive to leave because its like you don't value our custom enough, even though we're the backbone of your profits. You lose all these long term, loyal customers, then new customers will see you don't treat us right and won't join.

Perhaps you really need to look at a plan for high users? The posters have given some idea of usage and there are plenty of other ISP's with higher use plans than 40G to compare too. Perhaps Telecom needs to come up with a plan that pitches the per G rate below the $2 mark to attract/retain high users...or you could increase the data cap of existing plans?

While you say that the DYD is to attract new users you have no guarantee that they won't leave at the end of 12mnths. So that argument that you might loose an existing user if you offer them the same deal doesn't make sense? I would think that in the end its easier to retain existing user if you are offering good/competitive plans and/or packages.

I should also mention that due to regulation a bb service and its associated pricing must be considered on its own, no other services/spend can be taken into consideration in bb pricing

So again government meddling screws things up.

Can you explain why telecom have still got no naked dsl plans? They seem to be the only one able to provide a usable evening time service with the lousy contention other ISPs are forced to deal with.

I think what doozy Means is that, Bigtime users were majority high users, and when the 6 months of DYD would expire, they would still be locked into a contract and get angry at Telecom when they discover that 40Gb is not enough and they have a early disconnection fee if they wish to move.

Tho I might be completely wrong :D this is a forum.

I'm not really 100% sure on the reason, I could guess but probably not a good idea so I'll ask when I'm back in the office
