morrisk. I have a similar setup with my modem (Technicolor) bridged to an AirPort Time Capsule (router) and also want to access stats and the modem interface even though DHCP is turned off off on the modem. To do so you'll just need to create a connection with a manually assigned IP address In Mac OS X System Preferences > Network you'll should add a new service (Ethernet or Wiresless) using the + buttom bottom left and assign a manual IP address for your Mac in the range 192.168.1.x. See screen capture below where I've chosen 192.168.1.50. Each time you want to access the modem it's then just a simple case of temporarily making your regular (DHCP) connection 'inactive' and make this 'direct' connection to the modem temporarily 'active'

gorringS: you might want to read his article it explain things to level I understand them . http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=90&topicid=105744

I really have no idea what you're trying to explain. Your ISP is not going to have any significant difference on your line sync rates, as it's (as far as I'm aware) pretty much all via Chorus gear/network. And I have a POTS voice line + VDSL and, as above, I'm syncing at ~67mbps downstream, so you can't really blame a POTS line for any speed issues.

YOU might want to read the acknowledgements in that first post pointing to sbiddle as a significant contributor.

gorringS: you find it will alter every 24hr generally speaking. Most DLM change occur in early hrs of morning to avoid user interruption and also it when generally the local loop is less stress with others using it. Other thing your telecom techy wouldnt of told is dont turn ya modem / router of in attempt to try speed it up as that will actually just make it think ya line is unstable and will extend time it takes to do it dlm tuning :)

Hi Simon, I remember you were posting on our Facebook page regarding this sort of thing. Please note, Telecom and Snap are selling the same wholesale product from Chorus so speed should not differ as you say it is. I don't understand your motives by posting that Snaps services are better than Telecom's but this all comes under personal preference from the customer. If you want to continue these discussions this is not the topic to do it in.

DLM is based on error count therefore if your line is showing higher errors DLM will lower the real-world speed of your line, I don't think you understand this, our customers know about DLM and the importance of not turning off your modem.

thanks for insult wont be using this forum or anything to do with it any longer

He wasn't insulting you... good luck with whatever new forum you choose to go to... with an attitude like yours going to a new forum won't change anything because you will still have the same attitude.

This is an extremely helpful forum. You're choosing to give people misleading information therefore you waiver your right to complain.

When you learn a bit more about how vdsl works then come back sir. Good night and goodbye.

Had my VDSL install on Wednesday in Auckland where I live close to Eden Park around 450m from cabinet MAB-Q. Chorus guys were great. Professional, friendly and happy to discuss technical aspects of the install. They installed a splitter inside the ETP and ran about a metre of Cat5 cable to an existing jackpoint just through the wall from the ETP. There was an existing full sized wall plate there with a single 2-wire (BT) outlet. I supplied a new 2-opening modular wall plate (PDL 600 Series) along with 2-wire and Cat5e modules to fit this plate and asked them to use this in preference to the hardware they usually supply as it didn't make much sense to screw another box to the wall when there was already a full sized wall plate there and opening behind. They were happy to use the gear I supplied and I have a really tidy install now as a result.

Four days later I'm pretty happy to be syncing at around 33 Down, 9.8 Up 30ms to Telecom Speedtest site. Like many I was hoping for 40+ Down but it's a dramatic improvement from 15 Down, <1.0 Up 20ms on my ADSL2+ connection so I am not complaining.

Best of all I can report big improvements (double+) in speed down from US servers where Speedtests show around 12 Down, 8 Up (185ms) to Palo Alto. Netflix performance was alreday pretty good but now much improved with their adaptive video streams hitting 1080p/3850kbps quality in just a minute or so now. Have also noticed other real world improvements in general web surfing and downloading. Browsing the iTunes Store Catalogue in both iTunes and AppleTV is dramatically faster now and 1080p movie trailers from the iTunes Store start playing immediately and buffer to the end of their 2-3 minute duration in seconds.

I'm running the Technicolor modem in Bridge Mode (DHCP disabled) and using an AirPort Time Capsule 802.11ac as router and Wireless AP.

Four days post-install and just a couple of questions for the forum. Line stats from just now are shown below:

1. Can someone help me interpret this to tell me what stage of DLM I have reached?
2. Is it true that I should try to not turn my modem off or restart it for 10 days or while DLM takes place? – It's hard to resist when you're wanting to try out different network configurations!

It's funny how everyone who acts like a muppet and gets called on it, asks for their account to get nuked.

If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you ever tried :)

You'll probably experience that if you disabled DHCP on the Technicolor.I have exactly the same setup and access the Technicolor via Wi-Fi.

Thanks have reset Technicolor and this has solved my problem.

Hey guys, quick question.

I have a BT jack for my deticated dsl.
Does using a filter on the BT jack degrade performance on vdsl ?

Wouldn't imagine a significant amount, since the DSL socket on an ADSL filter is just wired directly to the line. But ideally you would get rid of anything unnecessary like these filters...

I have the exact same question and almost identical stats to yours.  VDSL installed 8 days back in Mt Eden.  Very interested in understanding DLM profile as the INP & Delay differ between Downstream and Upstream.  Here are my stats (first number down/2nd upstream):

Bearers generic info DS/US
Payload rate [Kbps]: 39124/10350
Attenuation [dB]: 12.1/26.5
Margins [dB]: 12.3/18.0
Output power [dBm]: 13.5/-0.8

Number of bearers: 1
Bearer 0 DS/US
INP [DMT symbols]: 0.00/1.50
Delay [ms]: 9.00/15.00
Depth []: 171/0.00
R: 6/0

Would really appreciate if someone could help me (us) understand DLM profile and why the profile appears to differ between upstream and downstream. My download speed has improved slightly and  upload speed remained consistent over the 8 days .  However, latency has creeped up from 20ms originally to around 28ms now.  Very few errors other than FEC.  Thanks much.

Jay

No specific message but you will see a disconnection and reconnection. Mine tend to happen around 4:10am.

Running DHCP on the Technicolor does not mean you will have two DHCP servers on your network. It only affects the WAN port of your router.
