How far are you from your cabinet? seems pretty low numbers - possible wiring issues in the house?

No, not house wiring, splitter at source, and Telecom reports that this is the best I can hope to obtain at my address. Crow says the cabinet is not too far away, but I suspect the copper doesn't follow the crow.
Interesting how bad some suburban areas are still.

From what I've seen on other threads the cable that comes from the home to the cabinet doesn't necessarily go in a straight direct line but rather could go on a bit of a Contiki tour around the neighbour before finally getting there. The reason why I ask about the wiring is because before the the VDSL people came I yanked up around an extra 50 metres of cable attached to the main black cable coming into the home for telephone. When the guy came in be put an extra 1 metre to attach it up to the wall plug - thus here I am with the speed I have :-)

Perhaps this is part of the Government's plan to keep house prices in Auckland down?

In an ideal world the suburbs would be bulldozed and there would be well designed dense urban housing with large amounts of public space for people to relax but alas people are addicted to their 1/4 acre.

Cabinetisation was never designed to deliver VDSL2 to 100% of premises. The goal (agreed with the Government) was to deliver 10Mbps+ to 84% of premises which was met in 2011. Because of the forward planning for VDSL2 it meant that the average loop length from a cabinet could deliver VDSL2 to most premises served from that cabinet, but if you're connected to an exchange the % is much lower as they cover a larger area.

I just switched back to ADSL2+ as I was getting near on identical stats on VDSL2. For a while there I was getting 18Mbps down and 1.3Mbps up (which I was happy with). But after a couple of weeks it went back down to 13Mbps down 1.1Mbps up.

What was most interesting for me was that I had no listed DLM profile and pretty sure interleaving was turned off on VDSL. The DLM profiles never moved as per other users, jumped from DLM-6 to a setup that had no added latency but did not look the same as DLM-1. Which is odd seeing as my line was anything but optimal.

Pinging to telecom speed test-
28ms- VDSL2 7/9/13
44ms- ADSL2+ with interleaving turned on. Depth of 160. 9/9/13
29ms- ADSL2+ with interleaving turned off. 10/9/13

Attenuation was interesting also.
VDSL- 24dB down and 57dB up.
ADSL2+- 23dB down and 11.4dB up

I would have been happy with anything over my existing 13Down and 1Up, cannot get cable even though I have a saturn line going into my house (I thought it was over the saturn lines unless I am mistaken??)

All I want is something half decent to fill me in until fibre. (UFB fibre up to 100 Mbps between Jul-2014 and Jun-2015)

bcc.telecomwholesale.co.nz map will do, but this is a legacy map now.

i have had my vdsl for just over 12 days

i havent noticed any great changes in speed , is there any way to tell if things are happening as they should ?

Telnet to your modem and look up the stats. I'm repeating advice I was given on how to do it:

stitch:To enable telnet go to control panel, programs and features, turn windows features on or off, enable Telnet from the list. Open a command prompt, type telnet 192.168.1.254 enter
Put username and password. Once logged on type xdsl info expand=enabled

And once you've done that, compare to table below, which I have copied from a previous post (thanks for providing, Amosnz).

So I received my modem and thought might as well switch over and get the wireless devices connected up, get the modem setup the way I want and the modem can just run on ADSL until connection.
First I have to say the web UI is just plain dumbed down.
I know it's asking too much, but an advanced interface where I can add mac addresses of things that currently are powered off or not here for fixed IP and access.
Trusted machines (Which bypasses the parental controls)
Setup fixed IP's for machines not on the network currently.
Sigh, I might be getting old, but to be honest, more options are better than none.
Spose I'll have to telnet into it and see if I can do it that way.

VDSL is all good here. But I have an issue as follows. Here's a pic to give a view of my setup:

(((--[Netgear N750 (DGNG4000]--))) -- WAN port link to VDSL modem, dual band WiFi (separate g & n networks) to support old and new stuff

[TG589vn VDSL] -- bridged mode, DHCP is on (for connecting to for admin when needed. Could go static, but meh ...)

[Telecom Network]
[Intertubes]

As you can guess, the TG589vn is in bridging mode. I have only two port forwarding rules on the Netgear for my servers, which work fine.

It was set up last Friday and has been fine until today. Maybe it's this stormy weather ... anyhoo ... what's happening is if for whatever reason the VDSL line has reset twice outside of human intervention (no admin login) e.g. exchange issue, line issue, profile change (?) .. I dunno why. After it comes back up forwarded traffic through my Netgear ceases to work until the Netgear is restarted. Has anyone come across this? I can't see what would be causing this at all as it's a pretty basic set up. All I can assume is that the WAN port on the Netgear linked to the TG589vn has some sort of "issue", or the firmware. Internet access outbound from PC's and the server work fine. It's just inbound rules that seem to cease working.

Touch wood, it hasn't happened since I got home, testing connections to the server via my phone. But it may happen again ... who knows.

Any ideas appreciated.

Backup the configutation then you have an INI file. There is a Heck of a lot more than the front end gives you.
This is promising.

Got a little bored so I threw the TG589vn into bridge mode, disabled the wireless functionality and hooked it up to my Airport Extreme Base Station 802.11ac, everything is working smoothly - a lot smoother than I expected; I'm a pretty happy camper at this stage :-)

OK is there any reason there are 2 logins to the router that are hidden from the web UI?
They are easily removed, but why not show all usernames on the web UI?
