It's such a dumb ad...Lets test speed by taking a picture of a boat...oh look it beat the boat...woo...

I want statistics and facts!

But you sir, are a Geek. The vast majority of the country doesn't know a MB from a Mb, let alone care that sending a picture now takes for example, 4.2 seconds, instead of 6.3 seconds.

They are using emotive advertising to capture the hearts wallets of the ordinary kiwi, whom they want need to sign up to the network in large flocks.

Geeks will find their own way there, and sites like Geekzone will impart more information to Geeks, at zero marketing cost, than a facts & figures advert will ever do.

Personally I think Telecom should have used a Kiwi to advertise the network, but then perhaps with a U.K. chap being top of the page (literally and metaphorically), that may not have been high on the agenda, vs. being all flashy and hip (mind you, the hamster is not exactly flashy and hip).

The exaggerated 'helmet hair' is a bit silly.

Where am I?

They did use a kiwi girl, that stunt woman... But the hampster is so well known and liked, name a kiwi which people know and associate as well with crazy speed!

I agree about the marketing/ad's needing to be simply to convey instead of statistics driven, faster in more places is a well thought out term.

nice ads but i would still prefer them to use their money to have coverage for all of nz and get rid of blackspots.

Comparing XT network with a boat is like comparing Vodafone with a F1 car...

Now theres an idea for an Ad Vodafone! ;)

Seem to recall that they (ad makers) are not allowed to do comparisons between named products.

They can in the US and it makes for some interesting adsWink

I started my own thread about this before seeing this one - d'oh!!

I don't really have a problem with Hammond, his antics on Top Gear are usually pretty amusing.

I just think they should make the ads a bit more relevant to the users, that is what are the benefits to the customer if they sign up to XT.

Not sure what you expect out of an ad. The purpose is to gain attention, the detail is in the purchase. I would guess EVERY ad on TV does the same thing. The one immediately comes to mind (and any other male out there) is Maccona.......mmmmmmmm

I have never purchased this brand of coffee but I am attracted to the ad and I have just this minute paid homage to the advertisers skill by mentioning it in this post.

I think the ads are pretty good... in fact everyone I know (including non-geeks) all know what the XT network is about, which means a pretty successful campaign from Telecom.

Telecom have done well to shrug off their past image as Vodafone until recently had far better mindshare in having the "best" network with "best" phones/devices and overall an image of being cooler or more trendy than Telecom.*

*At least this has been my experience when dealing with people who are not aware of specific technical details regarding the networks.
