Just checking out Vodafone page about FibreX, can somebody explain why it say 'Up to 200Mbps download speed' but in the 'Important things to know' section it states:

"Gigabit network speed capability exceeds user speed capability. Actual user speeds will vary and are affected by various factors including how you’re connected to the internet (using a Gigabit Ethernet cable is better than WiFi, which could have a large impact on speed), the hardware and software used, number of devices connected, time of day, and where the data is downloaded from. In really good conditions, we expect you’ll get download speeds of up to 700-900 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 90-95 Mbps"

Why is there a difference in expected speed?

There's two FibreX plans available. 200/20 and 1000/100 ("max'). If you're on the package builder screen, click the plus for the gigabit option.

Two different speed packages?
There is a 200/20 and a 700-900/100 option.

Sorry, I can't see no 'gigabit option'. May be it's not available to me or am I missing somthing?

Fibre X, 24 month plan, 1000/100 unlimited naked.

-$20 discount contract

-$10 mobile discount

+$5 to retain a static IP privilege

means I save $5/mo on my current 100/10 unlimited naked bill, going from $89.99 to $84.99

How did you get the $20/mo discount? I was told only new customers could get this and not existing customers, so I had to opt for the 6 months half-price offer (which is worse over 24 months). Don't really know if I can be bothered calling up again to discuss it, when it's only a ~$150 difference between the two, but it'd be nice to get consistent messaging on discounts for existing customers...

Seems to be a bit down to how lucky you get with CSR. It's a new product and not everyone is super familiar with all the permutations or what they can offer you if they like the sound of your voice.

I've had at least six that I've noticed since install yesterday - looking at the router logs, they last anywhere between thirty seconds and four minutes.  Not sure why I'm losing connectivity, but hio77 thought that the duration might be associated with the delay in getting a new DHCP lease, as my IP changed after each time.

I rang Vodafone up and mentioned it - we'll see if anything changes. (I'm in Wellington BTW).

Does anyone know if the HG659 Router supports VoIP with 2Talk?

All comments are my own opinion, and not that of my employer unless explicitly stated.

AFAIK SIP is locked down in both the Spark and the Vodafone firmwares, Not the Bigpipe one though.

Gig upgrade booked in for Monday afternoon. Was somewhat hoping to cash in on the $100 credit but it got scheduled in within 2 days. Win win I guess!

Having problems tonight with my "FibreX200" connection - NOT fixed by a full system reboot:

For the last 2 days I've been getting full 200/20 line speeds to all NZ servers, and excellent speeds to SYD, MEL, and LAX.

Tonight:

Upstream speeds in the 1 to 8 Mbps range to all NZ and overseas servers. (previously always 21)

Slow and unreliable connections to LAX (6 LAX servers tested)

Is anyone else having similar problems?

I'm in Island Bay, Wellington.

Now that I am back in town, I spent the evening reconfiguring the setup at my parents to remove the HG659 and put the fortinet firewall back as the edge. This went without a hitch and I was able to pretty much get 200/20 speeds to on the WLG speedtests around 7ish pm:

Speeds have now dropped to around the 130ish down/ 20 up range a couple of hours down the track

Melbourne:

Anyway, Im not too concerned with the speedtest results as it is already much faster than their previous 50/2 plan. What I am concerned about that I do not appear to have a static IP address. Every reboot or forced renew dishes out a new IP address. Has anyone else had this or has managed to get an actual static IP? The job order confirmation definitely had a static IP request in it.
