hey has anyone played with the QOS settings?  If you set a device in the high priority and then set the total bandwidth - All devices (even the high priority one) will then be capped to 1Mbps

If you change total bandwidth to 1000Mbps or 1 Mbps all devices will still be capped

Remove the high priority device and then everything goes back to normal

Can someone else try to confirm

Going to give this a go as our Fibre and Ultrahub are connected at the front right corner of the house, which makes the wifi in our bedroom which is the back left corner of the house a bit patchy. Tried redeeming through the website with my existing plan but it was telling me my plan wasn't active, so tried the live chat and it's because we are currently open term and needed to switch it to a 12 month contract to be able to redeem Superwifi. So have done that as happy with the current plan and had no plans to change anyway. So hopefully having one of these devices down the other end of the house makes the wifi more usable down there.

I have mine connected to my HG659B (needed to keep it as we have a landline for our alarm system) and operating in Access Point mode. The second unit down in our workroom is connected by Ethernet back to the first X20.  I set them up to use both 2.4GHz and 5GHz (I have a few devices that still need 2.4GHz) and using the same SSID.  This seems to be working well but there have been a couple of issues that I have come across.  These may not be related to the X20 units but perhaps my devices but mention it in case others have experienced this as well.  Firstly I have noticed that my Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 tablet occasionally looses Wi-Fi access - it drops completely and I have to turn the Wi-Fi off on the device and then back on and it reconnects. The second issue I have noticed with my Samsung A50 mobile.  On occasion it has lost internet but still shows as connected to the X20's with good signal strength. Again turning off the Wi-Fi and then back on fixes the issue.

Your old wifi is not on still is it with the same name? It needs to be off (or at least different name)

It does sound like a DHCP issue and the wifi toggle restores it, so maybe check you dont have 2 DHCP servers enabled perhaps.

Is the second unit showing as Ethernet backhaul in the app? If it cant get an ethernet connection it will revert to Wifi backhaul.

Not such and issue if the decos are in Access point rather than Route rmode, but in router mode at least, the second unit must be connected direct to the first and not both connected to the HG659 as that will cause issues - they can't both have a connection to the same broadband router.

There should be no issue with those samsung devices otherwise.

Just installed it in my in-laws’ place yesterday for exactly the same reason (I wish UFB installers were more careful about ONT placement, especially in houses without Ethernet wiring and/or owners who don’t know to ask about appropriate placement).

After getting over the initial problems (they sent a Vodafone TV instead; not sure where the comms went wrong here!), it was a breeze to install, and it’s gone from low/nil WiFi in their upstairs bedrooms to close to full speed (they only have 100/20). Second unit automatically connected after plugging it in with no user input required. I think I’ll try out the parental controls by ensuring my kids’ devices are set to use them...

Thanks for the information.  I have one Deco connected to the HG659B and the second Deco connected by Ethernet to the other Deco. The Deco is set to Access Point. The Deco's are setup as Access Point. Other devices in the house don't drop the Wifi on the Deco's so I suspect something with the S2 - it's getting old now so probably time to upgrade - at least that sounds like a good excuse to upgrade :-)

Hi,

mine arrived and was a breeze to setup.

coverage is great ... I was anticipating needing a 3rd unit but 2 have covered everything over 2 levels, to minor dwelling and even the pool (1st world issue previously)

apparently getting s 3rd is reasonably easy,  when I asked I was advised that as most situations would easily be covered by 2 units it made sense to only ship 2 initially and then a 3rd as required

R

Want to find that out as well. I need 3 units for my house. Can I get 3 from VF? What do they consider "as required"?

My understanding is that you start out with two units and see if that works. If not, I imagine they'll see if they can help with placement of the two units, and if still no luck that's when the 'as required' for the third unit comes into the picture.
I had expected to need a third unit with my in-laws' setup, given their house layout, but was surprised at the effectiveness of just the two units.

Contacted Vodafone today to discuss my home fibre renewal.  Agreed to this back in Dec but invoice amount hasn't changed as confirmation email described.

Side note, but every-single-time I renew or change anything with Vodafone it's a pain.  Their service offering is great for us, but any backend account info just fails.

That said though, the online chat today was excellent.  Credit where credit is due.

Sorted my invoice issue and also switched us from 24 month plan to 12 month, which then entitles us to the superwifi offering.

(why you'd only offer this to customers who only lock in 12 months instead of a full guaranteed 24 is beyond me, but hey...)

So all in all a great day and the experience dealing with Vodafone was a lot nicer this time around.

I hate to sound like a pessimist, but I'd wait until your next invoice from them before declaring they have resolved everything fully and completely. Unfortunately, I've seen this sort of thing happen on here so, so many times (rep says "yes! it's all sorted! I've fixed every single problem you have!"...and not a single thing on the invoice changes), it boggles the mind.

But, once your invoice shows the correct amounts then you can breathe a sigh of relief :)

So i'm an existing VF customer but I am not eligible for this without resigning to another term... this would mean breaking my current term which would cost me $$

According to CS I will need to wait the 20 months before I can be eligible... what about existing loyal customers? @JasonParis

I haven't checked yet, but recently resigned for another 2 years.
I'll be super pssd if I find I've missed the cut by a matter of weeks etc.

Turns out Vodafone didn't process my renewal earlier (despite confirmation email stating I had etc) so I'm now eligible to apply for the superwifi package (order placed).

Crazy, but renewed on a 12 month plan (instead of original agreed 24 months).  Fully don't understand the business logic behind that concept but will skip past that...

Fully agree, this happens every single time I renew or have family moving locations etc.
Compared to say power, comms services seem much harder to transition/renew.

My favourite last time was not being told Vodafone were consolidating their mass of acquired different systems into one.
Turns out our 'simple' renewal also included being moved to a new billing system, and that meant a change of customer number etc, so the bank transfer details were now different from before.
Fun times accused of not paying bills, despite clearly seeing money leaving our account as before.

However, I'm gonna sit in this little bubble of it's all sorted bliss for a bit though.  Will know by next billing cycle...

Back on topic:
Any recommendations for a simple small ethernet switch to increase the number of available wired ports on one of these X20 units?

Not after anything fancy/managed, but do need full speed on each.
Powered ok (assume this is a must) but what would others recommend.  Price up to $100 max hopefully?

Will feed PC, Xbox, TV in area currently serviced by the ultrahubs wired ports, but I really want to remove the ultrahub from the equation altogether.

I don't think there is much to choose between the consumer-grade gigabit switches.  I have D-Link and TP-Link ones in my house, they have been is operation for around 5 years with no problems at all and seem to achieve line speed on all ports.  They do need to be powered - I think you can get switches which are powered by PoE but they are few and far between

Looking at this sort of thing:

Noel Leemings

TP-Link 5-Port 10/100/1000Mbps Desktop Switch at $50

Netgear GS105 ProSafe 5-Port Gigabit Switch at $60

PB Tech

NETGEAR 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Plus Switch (GS105Ev2) at $74

Ubiquiti UniFi Switch USW-Flex-Mini 5-Port Managed Gigabit Ethernet Switch with USB-C Power Adapter at $62

I wouldn't pay that much; these are the ones I use:

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/SWHDLK1005A/D-Link-DGS-1005A-5-Port-Gigabit-Switch-Plastic-Hou

there's an 8-port version also.

My home LAN topology is slightly complicated due to house shape and some of my runs go through at least two of these switches, and I still get gigabit speeds across the link
