Could I ask what Vodafone's definition of "congestion" is? There does appear to be at least some form of congestion impacting Vodafone's network, as also indicated by the past two months' TrueNet reports.

Heck, the former TrueNet article's subtitle is even Vodafone's Homegrown Congestion. :P Take a look at the NZ page speed graph in that article in particular. Vodafone dips to ~2/3 of maximum performance at peak hour.
Yeah, but the TrueNet reports are complaining about congestion in webpage download speeds. The main complaints in this thread are about speedtest speed drops. The April TrueNet report states that FibreX drops to 93% of max at peak time - which doesn't sound anything like the major drops that some of us are having. I'm starting to think that the issues are localised. Just because it LOOKS like congestion, it doesn't mean it IS congestion.
but if it appears at certain parts of the day, say 3pm to 10pm every day then....
....then it might be other things. It seems clear from TrueNet's figures that it isn't affecting everyone. They show a 7% peak hour average drop. Some people here are seeing a 99% peak hour drop. That implies that it could be affecting just a street or a small radius.
Just throwing other ideas out there...
Maybe it's throughput-related packet-loss.
Electricity usage goes up between 3pm and 10pm. Maybe it's a power company street transformer that is squegging interference into a loose coax connector. The more load, the more interference, the slower the speed.
Ludicrous idea - but you see my point - just because it's time of day, it doesn't mean it HAS to be congestion. In fact, the TrueNet speed results imply that there isn't a general issue with congestion at the speedtest level.
