The vehicle inspection requirements for NZ state that directional lights must be:

1)bright enough to be visible from 100m in normal daylight and from 200m in normal darkness, and

2)not be too bright that cause significant dazzle to other road users.

(amongst a few other things)

Yes, but, sometimes the closer you are to the vehicle the harder it is to see the indicator lamp -- i think due to the light being reflected off internal surfaces -- they are like indicator lamp 'blind spots' .   Never noticed on the older vehicles as they have fairly flat uniformly rounded lamp cover assemblies.  Some of todays lamp assemblies look like stealth bombers.

It would be difficult for an inspector to check all angles of approach and distance.

The VIRM actually states what angles the light must be visible from, what colours are allowed, how many, and from what distance.

http://vehicleinspection.nzta.govt.nz/virms/in-service-wof-and-cof/general/lighting

I've linked to the lighting page in general, but 4-5 will take you to direction lights if you feel the desire to have a look yourself. Just be aware it's written from the point of what constitutes a fail for inspection - it can catch people out sometimes.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Yes. Agreed. The lack of uniform measures for bar servings is annoying.

I don't understand spammers sometimes.

In the developer forums for an alternative OS, someone pointed out a bug in the "WFI" code (whatever that is). There was a small amount of discussion and a fix was provided. Then just now, six weeks later, a spammer posted instructions on how to enable/disable Wi-Fi on a Windows PC. There are no links or anything, so I'm not sure what the purpose of posting that gibberish is!

Sometimes not spammers, just someone with limited understanding of how a forum works. Why do you think we lock inactive discussions after a couple of months?

Sometimes spammers test a forum by posting random semi-on-topic semi-gibberish (generated by some Eliza-like automated process, I guess), to see if there are any anti-robot defences and to see how alert the mods are.

Courier companies for whom package tracking is not a top priority when it should be.

Thus messages like this one:

In Transit

Your parcel is currently in transit between our 'Wellington' and 'Wellington' depots.

When arzewipes put their doggy-do bag in your wheelie bin.... after the rubbish truck has been.

Now I have to deal with their crap for a whole week until next rubbish day.

Or even worse people, who drop their bags of crap on the street, throw it over your wall, or put it in letterboxes. In some ways I preferred when it was just left on the grass verges to decompose naturally. Now the nasty stuff is ending up all over the place.

I would also like to see dedicated dog parks in NZ. Some towns have introduced them already but others are way behind.
