Any update for when this will be rolled out from other LFC, like Enable here in Chch?

Chorus residential UFB is only available in a handful of subdivisions here in Chch that were connected before Enable completed their UFB rollout.

I'm not sure if Enable, UFF or other lfcs have made any public statements, but they all are looking at options. many conducting trials etc, It's an interesting space.

my best recommendation is pass the feedback to your provider that your interested.

Most large providers have been burnt by Fibre Max being hard enough to support, so there is alot of caution in the market around ensuring there is plenty of capacity etc

Orcon has been quite bold going first.

Have to agree with all the comments re: practicability - it's certainly a hard ask for most folk - like the others here, through hard bargaining (with my much better half), we have a 1Gig connection at home and to be perfectly honest we don't come close to saturating it - but also those times when it is... well... more utilised... updates, backups, uploads etc. I couldn't be without it.

The very best outcome of it since we got it last year is that there have been zero complaints within the household of dropouts, slowdowns, slowness, lag... well, at least none that could be caused by the connection itself ;).

Having said all that, you'd have to hand in your geek card, and take another look at the site/forum you're on ;), if you didn't have a heavy twinge of 'want' in your gut.

When Spark put out an offering on this, I foresee another of those budget conversations in my future... one I may not win, but dammit I'm gonna try :).

I've just signed up for 2Gbps with MyRepublic. Having to pay $8/month for a static IP irks me, but I guess that's the cost of doing business...

I am rather pitiable...Thankfully my loving partner has learned to go along with my ill-advised shenanigans. I hardly ever get any eye-rolls these days.

Absolutely. Will need to rethink my home network as I've avoided jumping to 10Gb so far. I've got a Xeon-D board not doing anything, so I think I'll shift pfSense from VM to bare metal.

Man people don’t seriously read the multiple warnings on here to not go with MyRepublic...

Only other multi-gig residential provider is Orcon, bro. A friend of mine has been happy with their service for a few years now. I'll make sure to post my woes so you can feel validated.

Any ideas what the white box on the other end of the fibre patch lead is for?

Seems strange they wouldn't have a media converter from XGS-PON to 10GBASE-T and feed the Nokia ONT with that since it has an output 10GBASE-T port

Probably just me being a dummy but I'm missing something

The white box is the current internal fibre splice containment, the standard gen3 ont has a small adaptor clip the allows it to attach to it. I suspect the larger xgpon ont would clip on also but is too big for the In wall cabinet hence sitting aside.

Cyril

Edit looking again it seems the xgpon ont has now rear mounting holes so would not fit regardless

It's a desk mount unit.

Probably just waiting for the flylead to be snaped a few times ;)
