The little things make the biggest difference.

I believe this is the same (or at least very similar) to what Mr Murfy was utilising a few pages ago?
So over the weekend, changes were made to the app as well as server side
In the app, they removed the footprints from the nearby list - so the Pokemon's proximity to you is now very unknown
They also made a bunch of UI changes and added in the ability to customize your player
Pokemon have also got harder to catch and now escape Pokeballs and attack more often
Some of the maps that have popped up online over the last few weeks have been taken offline as IP ranges have been blocked from accessing the servers, and the bots I was using to make my own maps no longer work either
While I understand the rights of the developer to close backdoor methods of getting information, how about actually FIXING a major feature (that is tracking a Pokemon) before going after websites.
As a result, this game has lost the majority of its appeal - I'll still play, as I need candies but I now know I will have to be REALLY lucky in order to find anything classified as being rare/hard because there is no way to know how close/far a Pokemon is, if it appears on your nearby screen
It was always 3 foots away for me so the lack of feet doesnt really bother me. I dont think I once saw it showing less than that. And even at 3 of them they would still appear sometimes.
No idea how people knew which way they were to go running after them since the person on the map would just spin around all sorts of directions.

I think in the beginning it was 1 - 3. I believe if you want to make people walk, let you select the pokemon from your nearby list and then give you direction to go find it! Still achieves the desired, walk (drive) to your prize!

That's basically right, except you weren't given the direction as such. What happened is if you saw a Pokemon with 1 foot, you started walking in some direction. If it turned to 2 feet, then you knew you were going in the wrong direction and turned around. That's about as good as it got, but it was a ton better than it is now!

Sorry, my second sentence was a suggested improvement, like have arrows overlay the screen to show you where to walk.
Got my bots working again, though I need more accounts to cover the same area as the artificial delay built into the new code means that I can't scan enough of the area before the spawns disappear from the map. Hopefully I can get enough data (24-36 hours worth) in order to locate more spawn points and areas where the same Pokemon spawn all the time (I figure the areas will be the same, but the Pokemon may be different.
Using my own map I was able to catch a number of harder to find Pokemon before work.
If it is anything like Ingress, then the scraping of data puts a lot of extra load onto their servers and starts to majorly affect the game play experience. So I think you find this will be an ongoing cat-and-mouse game of getting shut out... finding a way around it... getting shut out...
If you are doing it for your local area, then you can bet it is being done everywhere!
Yep, the bots all got shut down on Wednesday evening and while clever people have managed to figure it all out and got things working again, I won't bother getting anything setup again
Since we finally had a fine weekend in Dunedin, I headed to several places I generally cant get to in order to hunt.
My only annoyance is that I when I saw new (or wanted) Pokemon on the map, it was almost impossible to track them down, and when I did - they fled after the first capture attempt.
Am finding that eggs are still the best way to get some Pokemon, and more importantly, the candy required to evolve.
Yeah I'm at the point where I really only want to obtain certain kinds of Pokemon rather than every single one (so that I can evolve or power-up existing ones, or catch new ones that I don't already have), so i'm hoping the new maps hang around. If I am able to play the game the way I want to play it, then I'll keep playing it. But if I can't, then I probably won't bother so much.
Well that didn't take long, seems the new bots are already getting shut down...
I was weak and decided to give Niantic some real money in exchange for 8 more incubators ($15NZ for 1200 PokeCoins = 8x 3 use incubators)
I am pleased with the new update (0.33.0 on Android)
They have changed the nearby list to a sightings list and Pokemon actually drop off/add on in real time as you move (no more stuck lists forcing you to close/open the app).
I need to check if the list order is actually an ordered list of what you will see first, and rumors advise that even if you have multiple of one type (ie, rat, bird etc) it only shows one icon, so the list isn't one solid wall of rats or birds.
Few other things changed as well, but I am so happy the sightings list actually works.
Now I just need to figure out the rough distance that the nearby list actually sees - 100m/200m?
Does anyone playing Pokemon Go have a problem where the player's character will stop walking and is stuck in the one place, even though the real player may still be moving?
I get this problem all the time. Walking around the Domain in the weekend I had to restart the app every 5 minutes or so because it kept stopping. Everything else in the app kept working, just my player wouldn't walk. No GPS error messages in the PoGo app.
On the way home I stopped at the Birkenhead library and my player froze there. I then drove home and was able to sit in my lounge in Glenfield and spin the pokestops outside the Birkenhead library.
This is running on a Vodafone Smart Prime with location mode set to High Accuracy.
My partner, who has the same phone, also has the same problem.
I've tried a few of those apps that are meant to clear your GPS assist data, but that hasn't solved the problem.
The phone has no problem with Google Maps or the other geo game I play (Munzee), so I don't know if the phone is the problem or just the game.
