Managed to get a third Togepi a few hours after the second, which gave me 21 candy and enough to evolve - picked the best one and evolve into Togetic.

On Monday I managed to hatch a Smoochum, giving me a complete New Zealand PokeDex (missing the four regionals I can't get here).

I was actually looking forward to getting back to work as the long weekend, a trip away and the increased starter Pokemon spawns had me "running on empty" for Pokeballs, and I was really close actually spending money on getting one of the New Year bundles in the store that came with Pokeballs so I wouldn't run out (however in the end I managed to get to work without needing to spend and now have a healthy stock of Pokeballs - but need more Great and Ultra)

I'm still having rotten luck with the eggs - I had a better hatch rate before the egg event started. I bought one of the mega-incubator boxes and I've almost used them all up, but still no Togepi. I've had a couple more Igglybuffs, Pichus and Magbys but still no Elekid or Togepi. The 5km eggs have been full of garbage, mostly. The starter event has been awesome, though. In the course of 18 hours, I caught a Charizard, a Venusaur and a Blastoise, plus I caught enough Charmanders to evolve my 95IV Charmeleon. I'm burning through resources as well. Need to get out to one of the heavily Pokestopped parks and do a few circuits to top up again.

Only seen a low level Blastoise so far with the event and haven't managed to get any decent high level/strong or better IV wild Pokemon to do any evolves with yet.
Bulbasaur is my main focus as I only have 188 candy and want at least 250 before the event ends (one one more evolve/and enough for a Level 20 to Level 30 power up session)

Managed to hatch another Togepi this morning in the last of my paid incubators; no more paid until another event (though still have three single use available for any 10km I might get .. have to clear all the 5kms again)

Not liking version 0.53.1 of the app; very hard to get the Pokemon Go Plus connected and stable.

Over the last few weeks my avatar has also changed where he stands on the map - used to be right on top of the PokeStop I physically sit over, but now its several hundred metres away, and just far enough away from any of the PokeStops I have in the area. As a result, no more free XP by spinning a PokeStop.

That sucks :o( They've been fiddling with the GPS. I was worried I'd lose any advantage I get from drift while at home, but so far it still seems to be business as usual. I've tested the Plus and it seems to be connecting okay on my iPhone and my son's Huawei. The fact that the update code contained 38 new movesets and some evolution items, and the fact that Niantic forced it for all users, is sending folks on Reddit into a frenzy that Gen2 is about to be deployed (or shinies, or something). I'd welcome something of substance as I've completed my regional dex and am missing having an objective in the game (apart from hatching Togepi and Cleffa, which I doubt will happen any time soon with my egg luck).

How have the updates been for this lately? Kinda fell off last year and I've been wanting to get back in with the next big update. Have they added all of the Gold / Silver Pokedex yet? That's probably what will drag me back in.

When did you stop playing? Things introduced over the last few months include:

  • The ability to select a Pokemon as your buddy so you can earn candy by walking with it. It's the only way I could get enough to evolve Grimer to Muk.
  • Daily play bonuses - you get extra XP for the first catch of the day, and even more for the 7th consecutive day. Plus extra items for the first Pokestop spin of the day, and a big haul for the 7th consecutive day.
  • They introduced the Gen2 babies Pichu, Igglybuff, Cleffa, Togepi, Smoochum, Magby and Elekid. You can only hatch them from eggs. Togepi is really rare: a 1/200 hatch rate. Just got my first on Saturday. They are all evolvable.
  • They've started having special events tied to holidays. We got increased spawns of spooky Pokemon for Halloween, along with extra candy and reduced egg-hatching distance. Thanksgiving gave double XP and Stardust. The introduction of Daily Bonuses had a week or so of hugely increased spawn rates. For Christmas we got a Santa-hat wearing Pikachu and discounted items packs, plus 10 free 1-use incubators. For New Year we got 10 days if increased starter spawns. Theories abound that there will be more events for Lunar New Year, Valentine's Day, St Patrick's Day and Easter.

The latest game updated included code for 38 new movesets and some evolution items, plus code for all the forms of Unown. It appears that they can flick the switch on Gen2 any time they want, now. There was also lots of code for shiny Pokemon and it was obvious they were tinkering with genders because a lot of people's Pikachu and Raichu temporarily changed to girls. That suggests breeding may be near. There was a forced update of the last version, which made everyone very excited that something big was imminent. We're still waiting. I've just completed my NZ Pokedex, including all the babies and two Kangaskhan I caught in the Gold Coast. Just need to evolve a Togetic and I'm done. I really, really want some new wild Pokemon to catch!

Oh, wow. I knew they'd been updating it, but I didn't know it was that extensive. Looks like it's time for me to pull out my phone and get updating. Thanks!

No worries :o) Looks like a lot more nests were just added, too, so check out your local parks to see if you've got new spawn areas.

Valentines Day event has started (with very little notice). Increased spawns of pink Pokemon (including Chansey and Porygon), double candy for buddy walking, catches, hatches and transfers, lures last 6 hours and there's an increased chance to hatch the pink babies from eggs. It shows that Niantic are listening to some feedback, as this is quite similar to the Halloween event that everyone voted as the favourite in their recent poll. I'm quite excited about it. I've only ever caught one Chansey and Porygon so my aim is to get enough candy for Blissey and Porygon 2 in Gen2.

Has anyone else been experiencing a game freeze when attempting to access character stats?

Started after 0.55.0 Update

Looks like a widespread bug affecting 60ish android devices and no sign  of resolution yet.

So am playing the game without pressing the avatar button in bottom left. Not the best experience but passable.

I was worried that XP / distance wasn't being logged but was wrong as hatches and leveling still happened.

A lot of Android users on the Silph Road are reporting the same bug. Hopefully it'll be fixed in next week's update (if they stick to the usual bi-weekly update schedule).

Liking this event so far; set a lure at work and its still going (though I have had to just "trust the button" on my PoGo Plus since having screen on all the time is draining my battery faster than it can charge.

Last night I cleared out my excess Pokemon, but by the end of today I suspect I will have to clear out the storage again.

It is also being reported that eggs have shuffled around again, the vast majority of what was in 5km eggs are now in 2km eggs and some 10kg egg Pokemon are now in 5km eggs (in eggs picked up from the event go time - around 8am NZ Time); at the moment I cannot test this as I have a full bag of 9 5km eggs with no plans to purchase any incubators.

EDIT: no issues with accessing my player information since updating

I'm all good on an S7.  No freezing on the character stats screen which is good as I regularly check the walking stats.
