Pretty underwhelming compared to the previous two.

Total of 2 shiny lettuce caught.  Daughter caught 3.  Some at the park got none.
Couple of 90+ normal ones evolved up for the moveset.

Improved my total catch of Lugia from the original 1 to now 4.  And a better IV at 96%. No shiny though.

Only shiny hatched so far has been a Pichu.  None of the other new shinies.

Very successful community day - six shinies, although none with spectacular IVs. I evolved a couple of stored Bulbasaurs plus one I caught during the event and my best shiny. Sad I could not TM my 100% Venusaur to Frenzy Plant. I have 4 Venusaurs above 96% so it's a shame they'll be forever stuck with a sub-optimal moveset. None of my stored ones were anywhere near as good. Still no luck with shiny Lugia depsite 24 raids completed to date. Oh well, better keep raiding!

I haven't evolved any shinies .. and probably won't even though I could evolve Dratini, Swablu and Bulbasaur and still have plenty of non evolved.

I am not sure if its because they all have crap IVs and there is always a chance I could get better down the line .. or because I have plenty of non shiny forms already in storage and it won't be used at all in battle

I didn't evolve my shiny Magikarp until I had a second which was even worse IV than the first, and Magikarp spawns got nerfed with the gen 3 release. I have 2000 candy so it wasn't a big deal to do so. I'm waiting for a better Swablu to get shiny Altaria. My shiny Shuppet was 89% so it became a Banette, even though I don't have a second. I had loads of candy and lots of spares so I evolved Dratini and Pikachu for the collection. Shiny Dragonair just might be my favourite sprite ever.

Community days are proving to be anti climactic for the kids I know. They don't really make up for the the lack of interesting game play and the long grind to level 40.

This time, the kid I was looking after gave up after 45 minutes. He was downhearted because he didn't get a single shiny while everyone else had at least two by that time. They never even appeared for him which was really strange considering the rest of us could see them and catch them.

Last time, another kid took an hour and a half to see a shiny while the rest of us had seen at least 9 in the same time.

My son loves it - on Dratini day, while the rest of us couldn't even get into the game, he caught three shinies in the first ten minutes. It took a bit longer for him to find his first shiny Bulbasaur, but he finished with more than me. I got most of mine in the first hour and he got most of his in the last hour. RNG is a strange beast.

I got just 1 shiny Bulbasaur (don't know the IV's as I don't bother checking them, can't see the point). Bulbasaur seemed to me to spawn a lot less frequently than the Dratini.

Caught my first legendary the other day, a Lugia. I was at a gym when the egg hatched and a bunch of people suddenly turned up. Decided to tag along with them and do the raid and managed to catch him.

Congrats on the Lugia. He's a beast to catch. I normally have a legendary catch rate of 75% or higher and never normally miss a throw, but I've managed to fudge a couple almost every Lugia raid. I've done 26 or 27 now and still no shiny.

I'm super excited about quests coming this weekend, and really interested to know more about how they work. Looks like you'll get the chance to catch more legendaries via the "field research" quests, which is good if you don't do large-group raiding or live rurally, or missed out on some of them the first time around. I plan to raid like crazy this weekend to get my shiny Lugia, but it looks like there will be much questing, also!

Yeah the quests look interesting. I usually don't do legendary raids because I don't want to spend money on this game to buy raid passes, and I also like to play whenever I want to play, not when the game says I should play (translated: I can't be bothered organising myself with local raid parties). So if quests give solo players a chance at getting legendaries then that would be great!

From the look of it, it really seems that they're offering new ways for players to earn raid rewards like rare candy, TMs and legendary Pokemon. It's a fantastic move, I think. I love my raid group but coordinating that many people (especially for tanky bosses like Lugia) is a pain sometimes. I also like that you can earn extra rare candy for quests because I never have enough for all the powering up I want to do. My aim is to have 2-3 of my best Pokemon (most of which are legendary) powered to 35, and it gets crazy expensive after 30.

Is there that much benefit to taking them to L35 over L30?

I tend to fully power up the 100%ers to 40, but pretty much everything else only to L30 where the bang for buck drops markedly.

It depends on what you're using them for. Often there are damage or bulk breakpoints between 30 and 35 that enables a higher total damage output, but it varies depending on what you're using them against. I'm just concentrating on getting my Mewtwos and two or three Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza up there. And maybe a couple of Machamp and a couple of good Blissey for gym offence and defence respectively.

Ah right.  I should probably check Calcy more closely on the damage per level slider.

I use the Pokebattler website to work out my best battle teams and breakpoints. It's a bit of work to load all your good Pokemon in (and the free option limits numbers) but once they're in there you just have to remember to update them if you power them up. It tells me which of my Pokemon will make the best team against any legendary boos and moveset, and the "raid advice" feature tells me which ones would be the best when fully powered up. In that section, I can click on each Pokemon and it will show me a graph of damage output at every level from current to 40, so I can decide if I want to power it up or not. Sometimes I'm just one or two levels away from the next breakpoint, so I do it, but if it's going to be too expensive I leave it as is.

I heard that Corbans Estate had lost its Pokestops. Apparently, it wasn't because the Corbans Arts Centre management asked that Niantic remove the stops - it was because they asked Niantic to pay rent for having the stops on the estate. Of course, normally companies pay Niantic to put stops on their property to increase their foot traffic. So it's unsurprising Niantic just shut them down.
