I don't find it a compelling enough upgrade over my current SGS. I will wait until the next generation.

Each to their own, certainly compelling enough for me and my use:

1080p video playback and HDMI output
USB OTG
Better, larger, screen, no pentile matrix
(hopefully) a good GPS experience
Reasonably significant upgrade to the camera
Dualcore CPU (of course not fully utilised until OS version 2.4, but still improving the perfomance of the phone in synthetic benchmarks)
1GB RAM
Better browsing experience
More internal memory

i am very interested ...

to see if the iphone 5 can match it! i am in need of boundaries and restriction - a bit like a child in choco land - so IOS appeals to me. i wonder if the posponement of announcing the ip5 is because the SGS2 so awesome!

(this is not a hijack! it's SSG2 awesomeness related!)

Won't matter really. Apple fans will never switch, Android fans will never switch and the masses between those two extremes don't give a rat's about either of them and will buy what their friends, family or online reviewers recommend.

iP5 is looking like it'll be an incremental evolution so expect slight speed bump (to the full 1GHz that it's capable of but not currently allowed for battery reasons), a bigger display but with the same number of pixels (for devs/apps reasons), and maybe a better camera front and back.

Android kit has so many awesome options in aesthetics, displays, cameras, form factors, SOCs and such that choosing the next Android phone will be a very exciting proposition. SGS2, being just one of many cutting edge choices.

Exciting times.

Cheers,
R2D2.

PS: Android phones are being activated at the rate of 350,000 a day - around 125,000,000 a year.

Galaxy S has gone to its new owner. HTC Sensation has gone to its new
owner. Galaxy S3 has gone to its new owner. Now using Galaxy Note 3. Skipping Note 4 I think...

What does Clove Charge for Postage to NZ? If I purchase from them internationally I presume they will not charge me VAT?

No VAT, postage varies, can't actually remember off the top of my head, something like 30pounds for Express international courier, a bit less for Royal Mail. Royal Mail is slightly slower, but also less likely to attract customs duties.

So if you buy from mibicity NZ then VAT is built into the price?

Nah, GST is, VAT is UK only

But I am avoiding Mobicity from what was said on the other forum...ie they aren't registered for GST and on the customs declaration forms they put items under a lower value and false phone name.  Sounds like a very dodgy practice to me! And all the GPforums users complaining about Mobicity problems, I'd just use Clove or wait for it to come to Vodafone/Telecom stores here

I have moved across the ditch.  Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

You will be waiting a very long time for it to come to stores in NZ. Telecom are still selling the Milestone original and the Milestone 2 has been out since the end of last year. They also haven't released official Froyo on their SGS and Europe is getting Gingerbread already.

I don't think I'll ever buy a phone that has carrier specific firmware, not to mention the extra that VF/Telecom charge for these phones.

I stopped buying phones that were not unlocked several years ago now, I get them sooner and cheaper, and without carrier bloatware and barriers to updates. As per usual I will go ahead and recommend Clove

Looking at NZ PCWorld for April Vodafone looks to  have cornered the Samsung G2 market and will have it in May..

Vodafone said they were going to sell the HTC Desire not long after it came out and that never happened.

I hope Clove are more professional than the way they present themselves on their FAQ page, I haven't seen so many errors in spelling from a company before =/

I see they get you to re-confirm if the price changes on pre-orders but do they get you to confirm if there is no change, but before shipping?

Just placed a pre-order through Mobicity. Now comes the hard part - waiting the 3 or so weeks until the phone arrives!
