maoriboy: Probably not big news for most of you, but I was super excited to discover that my S2 got an update today...now on 2.3.6, and this was through Kies! Yay. Font is way different from 2.3 and haven't really had time to play round with it to see what else is different but...YAY lol!

Is your phone parallel imported?

it will be parallel imported phone from one of these countries:
Chile
Indonesia
Czech
Europe

source: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/

too bad, vodafone nz version still stuck at 2.3.3 land. samsung is excellent at updating their firmware but the delay is usually because of the local telco provider

Mine updated to 2.3.6 over the weekend (might have been out sooner but I hadn't checked). I purchased it in Australia, unlocked, from Dick Smith. The second SGS2 in our house is via Telecom and there's no sign of that update yet.

kiwiharry: No. Phone is not rooted.

Try going into settings > applications > manage applications > all. Then find Swype, and click on it. You want to clear defaultsm clear cache, and clear data. Or as many of them as you can.

See if that helps.

Thanks Brendan. That didn't change it, but following that I decided to fully uninstall Swiftkey, and doing that has resolved the issue.

I had a very similar problem, running Swype with SlideIt and Swiftkey. I wasn't sure which was causing the problem but the keyboard became quite buggy. It'd lag terribly, wouldn't show the usual word choices above the keyboard and sometimes refused to work at all. Luckily it was resolved by removing the alternative keyboards and now I'm back to the Swype beta.

On another note, I've been having stability problems with DarkyRom HD (KK5). I'm running the Supercore 2.3 kernel and very few mods. Normally it's fine, but I've been having up to 6 restarts a day for the last two days, damned annoying. It's dumped many of the settings and has been generally annoying.
Just downloading Omega v9.1 to try now. At 462mb (ics themed version) it's a damned big rom...

I have just purchased a S2 on the XT network (yay 4 me) and even though I seem to be able to receive text messages, sending fails every time I try to send one. Yes I have money on phone and available texts and sim works fine on my wildfire,

Is this a settings/apn issue or is it likely to be within the messaging apps themselves? I use Go Sms pro and neither that or stock messaging app seems to let me send a message

Did you buy the s2 from Telecom themselves?

If not or even if you did, you might have to check the Message Center number in the default sms app on the phone. Check to see it is the actual telecom xt one. Some times it gets lost or miss read from the SIM.

You can often use the SIM toolkit icon in the app drawer to retrieve the data from telecom for these services. You receive them a bit like a text message.

Maybe some of the telecom xt users here can look and give you the number.

The APN's are only for the internet and MMS messages. Check them too.

Thanks Brendan. Yes, by the looks of it I have lost the Message Centre no for telecom, so I'll be grateful if someone would be able to post it for me

Oops. . . yeah, it's far too easy to chew through mass amounts of data. . . .perhaps we'll get sufficient mobile data caps in NZ one day that we won't have to sweat on everyday usage.

Wireless FTW!

If you cant determine the cause, reset the phone and reload each app one by one to find the cause.

hi guys,

Does anyone know what the best modem to use on a 2degrees network?
Now that 2degrees are selling the S2. Do they use their own firmware? What S2 modem do their phones come packed with?

Cheers

Merry Christmas and all that jazz. This thread has become the place to go for questions and answers on the SGS II. Roll on 2012 and Ice Cream Sandwich.
