If your kernel support OC/UC (as Cognition's does), I'd highly recommend useing SetCPU to Underclock to 200/500/conservative for screenoff - I had 2% drain overnight with 3G sync on for GMail/Facebook/Accuweather etc.

Have set the normal profile to 200/800/Performance too see how that rolls.

The other awesome thing about UC'ing when the screen is off? Charging speed are rampant! About 1% a minute, which is way faster than normal!

Have you tried any apps to monitor your cpu usage before trying that? Even when on a stock rom mine is either in a deep sleep, or running at 200MHz (music/audiobook playing) with the screen off. I've never needed to force it to do that.

Using Tegrak Ultimate I'm 125mv undervolted from stock (core and internal voltages) on all four lower steps. L0 is running at 1300MHz/1300mv. No stability issues.

On another note, I had to restore my nandroid of Lite'ning rom after receiving a couple of phone calls today. I'd flashed SkyRom V2.0 early yesterday and the phone worked perfectly, but having a chick's butt (admittedly it was rather a nice one) flash up as the picture did not go down so well. The first time it was my mother calling and my wife saw the phone screen, the second was the local council (father-in-law saw the screen this time). I might have thought it was amusing another time, but this was seriously inappropriate.
According to my contact information neither has a picture assigned, nor have I ever seen the pic on my phone before flashing SkyRom. After going back to Lite'ning the problem has resolved, but I'm not willing to SkyRom again if this is going to happen. I don't know what caused it, but it really is a put-off...

After all the work I went through to get the rom running (about 7 tries and several back-up/restores) I'm pretty disappointed. Now running Lite'ning v2.1 with Steel Blue theme...

Might have a try at something else. Haven't tried cognition yet. ;)

Yes. Was not impressed. The first time I saw it my wife and I were sitting with a travel agent when I received a call from my mother to say a family member had passed away. As you could imagine I was not impressed...

I suspect it's an installer for the removed apps. Only problem is that all the add-on pack links point to the new version...

Been reading from page 35 till now, I envy all you guys who have a rooted phone. I'm not as techno savvy so still stuck with a stock ROM eventhough the phone does not have warranty so no worries about voiding warranty lol.

Question is why is it I still cannot get the 2.3.4 update? I'm still on 2.3.3 and software update keeps on saying my phone is up to date.

My galaxy s2 came with 2.3.3,
Baseband version: I9100XXKDH
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWKDD

Is there anyway I could get rid of O2 welcome screen?
Disable social, game, music, video hubs?
Fix the Wifi-sharing bug?
Improve battery life?

Without rooting the phone?

The 2.3.4 update is not yet official. The version many are using was leaked last week. An official one may be out by the end of the month.

To answer the rest of your questions, root. You can do this and still keep everything pretty much stock.
Start by installing Clockworkmod (CWM), then make a back-up. Then flash Cognition, or one of the many others out there. It's very easy to do, and you won't regret it.

I'm currently using Lite'ning Rom (about to try Cognition), many others are using Cognition, Villian, DarkyRom2 or the Rom Kitchen Beta. Cognition is probably one of the most popular and has a very responsive developer. It's pretty much a stock looking rom with the bloatware removed and a lot of performance improvements.

The 2.3.4 update won't disable hubs, will probably fix the wifi sharing bug and may improve battery life.

Flashing roms and updates is very simple, try flashing a newer stock one first (no root required). That'll get you used to the process and stays completely stock. You'll find all you need here.

I'm currently on Cognition, although when DarkyROM 2.3.4 build gets fully customised I will probably try that out as a long time SGSI DarkyROM user.

It´s a part of the Evolution Theme.

If you dont like it, feel free to change the whole Theme or to flash to another ROM!

I switched to cognition last night from stock KG1, and this morning my battery usage was lower than usual. Saw that my phone was awake for most of the night

Did a factory wipe so will see if it happens again
