Wow this phone is driving me nuts.

Problems -

1. Phone going into landscape mode even when auto-rotate is turned off.
2. Answering phone calls with speaker turned on. (restarted phone and it was fixed but kept coming)
3. Going into Car Mode all the time. (google said its because i'm near a magnet, I couldn't find anything)
4. Phone keeps restarting when I "Power Off".
5. When pressing the physical button, "Voice command" thing coming up rather than homescreen.

Most importantly - My Facebook Account got mysteriously erased from the "Accounts & Sync", and all the contacts I had "joined" to my phone contacts disappeared with the fb account..

I did quite a bit of research on Car mode problem, but they all suggest root the phone, remove the app and install 3rd party app. But there should be some other way??

EDIT: Car mode is also enabled when I blow into the charging port when trying to blow any dust off, if that piece of information helps.

Just had a look inside my wall charger, there is only 4 pins, but my usb charger have 5 pins. Does it mean the car problem might be due to my wall charger?

It is checked.

Okay this is going to sound very stupid, but I kept on blowing into the usb port(as advised by other threads by googling), and tried again and everything worked including wall charger is charging, usb is connecting.

So I'm guessing there is some sort of shortage or loose connection(???) in the port which was also triggering the phone to turn on by itself after I turn it off "power off". Just turned phone off and so far haven't turned it back on by itself so blowing into usb port seems to have worked..for now.

Random! There may have been a small bit of fluff or something in there causing the problem...

Yep.

But if you google this problem, there are thousands of people asking the same question, and having the same problem. Do you really think it could be that simple? I'm glad mine is all good now(touch wood) but never knew a dirty usb port could cause so much damage.

But still doesn't explain how my FB account mysteriously disappeared from the phone!

I did install 4 new apps last night from appbrain app -

1. Tank Hero
2. Dolphin Browser HD
3. Fruit Slice
4. Shaky tower

Not sure if that has to do with anything.

That is a feature, When you "double click" the home button voice command opens up.

For those of you who like the idea of Root Explorer but perhaps not sure if you want to part with a few dollars without knowing if you'll benefit.  Maybe try File Expert.  It's very similar to Root Explorer but it's free.  You can add favourites (to folders/files) instead of adding Bookmarks in Root Explorer.

And it does other stuff I'm technologically equipped to understand.  Something about being able to connect to your computer and vice versa to see the files.  There's settings for FTP and Web.  There's a video demonstration too.  I feel asleep watching it last night - haha!

Anyway, take a nosey here

I just closed Kies on XP and noted 2G of RAM free up in Task Manager.  It had been running for a few days, it might represent the number of files it identifies but it might also represent a memory leak(s) in Kies?  Anyone else noted anything about it?

New ROM seems to have improved battery life. This is the longest I've got out of it so far

That's pretty epic - did you actually use your phone? ;-)

Did you disable 3G/Wifi etc when not using it?

I have a love hate relationship with phones with bluetooth. The SGSII is the best I have come across but from time to time it will just crash, hang or become unresponsive trying to pair with my MKI9200 Carkit, sometimes failing to connect or taking a long time to connect. It's very frustrating, but is the most stable combination since before my HTC HD2 and SGS1.

I am concerned about putting in a custom rom (Though I did this weekly on my SGS1) because whilst the bluetooth issues are frustrating, it works 80% of the time and I don't wish for it to become less stable.

More battery life would be nice.

BTW does anyone know how I can put a shortcut on my "desktop" of the phone so I can click it and connect or disconnect the bluetooth of a device I am paired with?

Right now it's about 5 menus deep.

Yep, toggle them on and off as required and have a bunch of apps frozen and not starting with the phone

Another benefit of a custom ROM. Can toggle Bluetooth on and off from the notification bar Smile
