Previously known as the NZTA

Still known as the NZTA as far as I can tell, no matter what anyone says.

Legally in Statute they are still NZTA,

A bit like Vic Uni "branding" itself University of Wellington after being told they couldn't change names,  and your local regional councils that go by names like Ecan, Horizons, Greater Wellington.. when in legality they are XXX regional council ..

Ford's electric pickup truck has over 100,000 pre-orders:

Yeah, but at 3 tonne curb weight and 5.9 metres long, the changes of seeing many in NZ is pretty low...

Thats what you have a home battery for.

At $17k for 13.5kW thats a huge payback period

Apparently overseas somewhat-tired vehicle batteries are being repurposed as home solar batteries, for which they are perfectly adequate. In which case I expect you would get them for next to nothing. I wonder how much a Powerwall costs without the batteries?

I doubt Tesla would sell a Powerwall with no batteries, and why would they? Maybe another manufacturer may make batteryless power packs perhaps

Also there's more to a Powerwall than just a box of batteries. With a battery capacity of around 20kWh the control system will protect the unit from runaway thermal events (fire) at the very least so probably not wise to let any Tom, Dick or Harry build DIY versions.

Agree. 20kW? I thought they are 13.5kW, and of that at 90% efficiency?

I'd suggest that "Any Tom Dick and Harry" can build a DIY version very simply - an example would be visiting the Victron Energy website and selecting the appropriate components, then purchasing batteries.

All very well if they're off grid but if you're planning on getting CoC on a grid tied system that may be a bit of a problem.

If you drill down through the links of the article I hyperlinked above it seems that Tesla are claiming a 50% increase in storage in the PW2 as compared to the original PW which was 14kWh. That equates to >20kWh though Tesla aren't too forthcoming on actual spec's.

Also the battery tech advances announced during 'Battery Day' last year is very likely to see the capacity increase further going forward.

Ok, odd. PW2 is 13.5. PW3 will also be 13.5, but with a higher peak output (about 7 to 9kW or thereabouts)

The "may be >50%" power increase mentioned refers to output capacity, not power storage.

I stand corrected. The PW3 is also still rated at 13.5kWh so probably the increasing output is due to improved battery and software tech.

The Rivian SUV and Ute & Pickup have been spotted in NZ. Most likely going down south for some winter testing
